Generallocationrequirements
Whenselectingalocationforyourdisplayitisimportantto
consideranumberoffactors.
Keyfactorswhichcanaffectproductperformanceare:
•Ventilation
Toensureadequateairow:
–Ensurethatequipmentismountedinacompartmentof
suitablesize.
–Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.Allow
adequateseparationofequipment.
Anyspecicrequirementsforeachsystemcomponentare
providedlaterinthischapter.
•Mountingsurface
Ensureequipmentisadequatelysupportedonasecure
surface.Donotmountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmay
damagethestructureofthevessel.
•Cableentry
Ensuretheunitismountedinalocationwhichallowsproper
routingandconnectionofcables:
–Minimumbendradiusof100mm(3.94in)unlessotherwise
stated.
–Usecablesupportstopreventstressonconnectors.
•Wateringress
Thedisplayissuitableformountingbothaboveandbelow
decks.ItiswaterprooftoIPX6standard.Althoughtheunitis
waterproof,itisgoodpracticetolocateitinaprotectedarea
awayfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorainandsalt
spray.
•Electricalinterference
Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfromdevicesthat
maycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitters/receivers.
•Powersupply
Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothevessel’sDC
powersource.Thiswillhelptokeepcablerunstoaminimum.
Compasssafedistance
Topreventpotentialinterferencewiththevessel'smagnetic
compasses,ensureanadequatedistanceismaintainedfrom
thedisplay.
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforthemultifunctiondisplay
youshouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossibledistance
betweenthedisplayandanycompasses.Typicallythisdistance
shouldbeatleast1m(3ft)inalldirections.Howeverforsome
smallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletolocatethedisplaythis
farawayfromacompass.Inthissituation,thefollowinggures
providetheminimumsafedistancethatshouldbemaintained
betweenthedisplayandanycompasses.
