6.3Radarscannerprotection

Additionalconsiderationsapplywheninstallingthe
Radarscanneronasailingvessel.
WhenmountingtheRadarscannerunitontothe
mast,checkthattheunitisnotfouledbythesails,
especiallywhentacking.
Dependingonthetypeofsailingvesselandthe
designofthesailplan,aRadarscannerguard
shouldbeattachedtothemastifthesailsor
riggingcontacteithertheRadarscannerunitor
themountingbracket.WithoutaproperRadar
guard,seriousdamagecanresulttotheRadar
mountingbracketandtheRadaritself.Inextreme
cases,suchdamagecouldresultintheRadar
scannerunitbeingpulledoffthemast.Therefore,
itisrecommendedthataRadarscannerguard
shouldbemountedadditionallyandseparatelyto
theRadarscannermountingbracket.
TopreventtheriskoftheRadarscannerunitfalling
afterithasbeendamaged,thesecuritylanyard
suppliedwiththemastbracketMUSTbesecured
properlytothemastandtotheRadarscanner
unit,accordingtotheinstructionsprovidedwith
thebracket.Ifasafetylanyardisnotsuppliedwith
themountingbracket,contactyourlocaldealerfor
appropriateparts.DoNOTattachotherequipment
toeithertheRadarscannerunitorthebracket.
Raymarinestronglyrecommendsthatyoucheck
theconditionandsecurityofthebracketmounting
feet,thesecuritylanyard(s),theRadarscanner
guard,andtheRadarscannerunititself,ona
yearlybasis(ormorefrequentlydependingon
environmentalapplications).Anyttingsshouldbe
replacedasappropriate.
Thefollowingillustrationshowsanexampleofan
installationfeaturingaRadarscannerttedtoa
typicalmountingbracket,aRadarguardattachedto
themast(separatelytotheRadarmountingbracket),
andsafetylanyards:
1.Exampleofatypicalsafetylanyard.
2.ExampleofatypicalRadarscannerguard,
attachedtothemastindependentlyoftheRadar
mountingbracket.
Note:TheRadarguardshownintheillustration
aboveisprovidedasanexampleonly.Theexact
designandpositioningoftheRadarguardis
whollydependentonthenatureofyourvessel,
sailplan,andinstallationenvironment.For
example,forsomevesselsitisappropriateto
locatetheguardabovetheRadarscanner;for
othervessels,itmaybemoreappropriatetotit
belowthescanner.Raymarinedoesnotsupply
Radarguardsbutrecommendsthatyouselect
aguardthatisattacheddirectlytothemastand
iscompletelyseparatetotheRadarmounting
bracket.ItmaybenecessarytohaveaRadar
guardcustomdesignedtosuityourspecicvessel
andinstallationenvironment.Pleasecontactyour
