CHAPTER 2
2-4
The Navigation Rules set forth 3 types
of crossing situations- crossing, meeting,
and overtaking. In each case, both boats
are governed by special procedures.
In a head-on meeting, both vessels must
sound a single blast to give way toward
starboard and pass to port.
These rules appear when there is a risk
of collision. In a crossing situation be
aware of the other craft's position. For
safety, there should be a noticeable
change in the angle, bow or stern; a
gradual change in position indicates pos-
sible danger.
