Chapter 5
Emergency Shifting
If the electronic remote control should develop a fault
and the drive unit can not be shifted there is an emergency
procedure to engage the IPS unit in forward gear.
WARNING
!
PREVENT BODILY INJURY!
IN THE EMERGENCY SHIFT MODE THE UNIT
IS LOCKED IN FORWARD GEAR
AND CANNOT BE DISENGAGED
WITH THE CONTROL LEVEL.
THE VESSEL CAN ONLY BE
STOPPED WITH THE KEY SWITCH
OR AUX. STOP CONTROL BUTTON.
1. Stop the engine and remove ignition key from switch.
2. On the side of the IPS drive locate the solenoid valves.
Locate the harnesses to the solenoids and remove both
harnesses from the solenoids. Remove the cap nut from
the P or forward solenoid by unscrewing it.
3. Press in on valve A while turning the valve 1/2 a turn
counter-clockwise (spring action forces the button out).
The drive unit is now connected for forward vessel motion
and can not be disengaged using the control lever.
To manually disengage forward gear:
1. As you push in the spring loaded button turn the button
simultaneously clockwise 1/2 turn. Forward gear is now
disengaged.

Note: The same procedure works for the reverse gear using
the solenoid valve marked “S”.
