LEGACY PROTOCOL SUPPORT
Starting in September 2015, all MACH-Pro series controllers ( i.e. MACH-ProCom
, MACH-
ProSys
, MACH-ProWebCom
, and MACH-ProWebSys
), ship with two versions of
firmware on board. The controllers boot up with version 8 firmware enabled by default,
which fully supports BACnet communications, but does not support legacy Reliable
Controls Protocol (RCP). Installers can revert to version 7 firmware by toggling a setting
found under the Setup main menu item in the RC-Toolkit
®
MSet Tool. Version 7 firmware
supports both BACnet and RCP protocols, and also includes a Dual/Sub network feature
that allows both protocols to be mixed on a single EIA-485 bus.
This 'dual firmware' configuration allows a MACH-Pro series controller to support legacy
RCP communications in an installation while the owner gradually upgrades to Reliable
Controls BACnet controllers. Eventually, after all controllers have been upgraded, the
same MACH-Pro series controller can be easily switched over to version 8 firmware, future-
proofing the installation with pure BACnet protocol.
There are thousands of Reliable Controls legacy controllers installed around the world that
will need to communicate using RCP for many years. The connection point for these
controllers into modern Reliable Controls hardware and software products will be a
MACH-Pro series controller, running version 7 firmware. For this reason, Reliable
Controls will continue to support and release new updates of version 7 firmware for the
foreseeable future. Using RC-Toolkit OS-Send and MSet tools, users will be able to update
version 7 controllers with newer releases of version 7 firmware, upgrade from version 7 to
version 8 firmware, or update version 8 firmware to new versions.
For more information on version 7 and version 8 firmware upgrade considerations and
procedures, please refer to Application Notice #22.
NAMING CONVENTION
In this manual, the term MACH-Pro(Web)Com
will be used when the discussion applies
to both MACH-ProCom and MACH-ProWebCom controllers.
This manual describes the operation of MACH-ProCom and MACH-ProWebCom controllers
