The International Standards Organization standard ISO 4406:1999 is the preferred method of quoting the number
of solid contaminant particles in a sample.
The code is constructed from the combination of three scale numbers selected from Figure 11.1.
The first scale number represents the number of particles in a milliliter sample of the fluid that are larger than
4μm(c).
The second number represents the number of particles larger than 6μm(c).
The third represents the number of particles that are larger than 14μm(c).
