Electrical
System
Battery
The
battery
is one of the
most
important
parts
of
the
car
and
should
be
checked
and
serviced
carefully.
Check
the
electrolyte
level
at
least
once
a
month
in
the
winter
and
every
second week in the
summer.
It
should
be 6—8 mm
(approx.
XU
in.) above the cell plates. Use only distilled water when topping
up. The
charge
of the
battery
is
measured
with
a
hydrometer
which
shows the specific gravity of the electrolyte. The specific
gravity
values
from
fully
charged
to discharged
are
listed
in
the
table
below.
In
order
to
prevent
corrosion
of
the
terminals,
they
should
be
coated
liberally
with
Vase
line.
All
grease,
dirt,
etc.
should
be
removed
before
coating.
Check also
that
the
battery
is
firmly
secured
and
that
the
terminal
nuts
and
the
ground
connections
are
tightened.
* Since
this
car
has
ball
joint
suspension of
the
wheels,
the
term
king
pin
refers
to
an
imaginary
line
through
the
centers
of
the
ball
joints.

fig.
