5.6 Adjusting the
lateral cross
arms
The lateral cross arms can also be adjusted on lifting devices with more than 2
suction plates. The "Installation" chapter describes the adjustment process for the
lateral cross arms.
Setting for bending
parts
If large workpieces bend considerably when lifted (e.g. thin metal plates), and a
lifting device with more than two lateral cross arms is used, the following aspects
must be observed:
Each suction plate must bear the load evenly, i.e. no suction plate may hold less
load, all suction plates must be at the same level (Figure 2). If suction plates carry
less load, the maximum lifting capacity of the lifting device is reduced.
The alignment of the lateral cross arms for bending parts which are longer than
the lateral cross arm (Figure 3 and 4):
3 lateral cross arms: (Figure 3)
Divide the workpiece into 3 equal parts ( to )
Align the outer lateral cross arms such that the suction plates are positioned in
the centre of the outer areas ( and ).
4 lateral cross arms: (Figure 4)
Position the two lateral cross arms at the ends of the longitudinal cross arm.
Divide the workpiece into 4 equal parts ( to )
Arrange the inner lateral cross arms such that the suction plates are at the
same distance from the symmetry line = even load distribution.
