Operator's Manual
To redefine the command used for accessing the remote scale follow this procedure:
1. Enter — 19998 and press the setup/cal key.
2. The scale will display “SCI E”. To use “E” as the command for exponential notation, press
setup/cal. To use “E” as the command for the remote scale, press clear.
3. The scale will display “rS E”. To use the “E” command for the remote scale command, press
setup/cal. To exit without altering the use of the “E” command, press the clear key.
Below are additional commands available via RS-232:
Function ASCII Hexadecimal Function ASCII Hexadecimal
ID START / 2F JUMP J 4A
ID FINISH $ 24 VERIFY V 56
WAKE UP W 57 Immediate Print # 23
Never include a carriage return or line feed in any command sequence. The scale uses any com-
mand character as a terminator for an input string.
For example, to enter a tare weight of 1000 (in the units currently being displayed), simply send
“1000T”. This will enter the number 1000 into the TARE register. To enter an average piece weight of
12.35, send “12.35A”.
Sending Alpha-numeric ID #s to the Scale
Alphanumeric identification numbers (ID#s) may be entered into the scale through the RS-232 inter-
face. Setra scales do not have alpha-numeric keyboards, so the RS-232 interface is the only means of
entering such ID#s.
Since Setra scales recognize upper-case ASCII characters as commands, you must instruct the scale
to ignore entries as commands when entering alpha-numeric ID#s. Special control sequences are
used to disable interpretation of alpha-numeric characters.
To enter an ID# from a computer or RS-232 keyboard, send the following string to the scale:
/ [string identifier] $ S
The ID START (or introducer), “/”, instructs the scale to ignore subsequent characters as commands.
The ID FINISH (or terminator), “$”, instructs the scale to interpret subsequent characters as com-
mands. Everything between the start and finish will be stored as the identifier. The ID# entry com-
mand, “S”, instructs the scale to enter the string identifier into the ID# register.
