This document is an owner's guide for the Shark Steam Mop, specifically the S1000 and S1200 Series. It provides instructions for assembly, usage, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty information for the device.
The Shark Steam Mop is designed for cleaning hard floor surfaces using steam. It is a household appliance that utilizes high heat and steam action to clean and sanitize floors.
Important Safety Instructions:
The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions. Users are warned about the danger of scalding due to the hot steam emitted from the mop. It advises keeping the Steam Mop away from children and never turning it on its side or directing steam towards people, pets, or plants while in use. The system should only be used for its intended purpose and not for space-heating or outdoors. It's crucial not to leave the Steam Mop unattended when plugged in and to always unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet when not in use and before servicing. Children should not be allowed to use the Steam Mop, and close attention is necessary when used near children, pets, or plants. Only manufacturer's recommended accessories should be used. The Steam Mop should not be used with a damaged cord or plug, and if it's not working correctly or has been damaged, it should be returned to SharkNinja Operating LLC for examination and repair. Immersion in water or any other liquid is prohibited to protect against electric shock. Users should not handle the plug or Steam Mop with wet hands or operate it without wearing shoes. The power cord should not be pulled or carried by, used as a handle, closed in a door, or pulled around sharp edges or corners. The Steam Mop should not be run over the cord, and the cord should be kept away from heated surfaces. Unplugging should be done by grasping the plug, not the power cord. Extension cords or outlets with inadequate current-carrying capacity should not be used.
Further safety instructions include:
- Not putting any objects into the steam nozzle openings.
- Discontinuing use if the steam nozzle is blocked.
- Not putting hands or feet under the Steam Mop as it gets very hot.
- Using the mop ONLY on flat, horizontal surfaces, not on walls, counters, or windows.
- Avoiding use on leather, wax-polished furniture, synthetic fabrics, velvet, or other delicate, steam-sensitive materials.
- NEVER adding cleaning solutions, vinegar, scented perfumes, oils, or any other chemicals to the water, as this may damage the unit or make it unsafe. Distilled water is recommended in hard-water areas.
- NEVER storing or leaving the Steam Mop in one spot with the Dirt Grip® pad attached, as this may damage surfaces.
- Unplugging the Steam Mop and allowing it to cool before removing the Dirt Grip pad.
- Unplugging the Steam Mop before cleaning and using a dry or damp cloth to clean the exterior. Alcohol, benzene, or paint thinner should not be used for cleaning.
- Exercising extreme caution when using the Steam Mop to clean stairs.
- NEVER using the Steam Mop without the Dirt Grip pad attached.
- Keeping the work area well lit.
- Storing the Steam Mop indoors in a cool, dry place.
- To avoid circuit overload, not operating another appliance on the same socket (circuit) as the Steam Mop.
- ALWAYS unplugging the Steam Mop and allowing it to cool before removing or changing mop heads, accessories, or Dirt Grip pads to avoid scalding injuries.
- The Steam Mop is designed to clean hard floor surfaces that will withstand high heat. It should NOT be used on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors. For surfaces treated with wax or some no-wax floors, the sheen may be removed by heat and steam. Testing an isolated area is recommended before proceeding, and users should check the floor manufacturer's use and care instructions.
The device features a polarized plug to reduce the risk of electric shock, meaning one blade is wider than the other. It should only fit into a polarized outlet one way. If it doesn't fit, the plug should be reversed. If it still doesn't fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted, and forcing it into the outlet or modifying it is prohibited.

- Distilled water is recommended to prolong the life of the Steam Mop.
- To remove the tank, lift it up and away from the Steam Mop body.
- To remove the water tank cap, twist counterclockwise.
- Fill the tank completely with distilled or tap water.
- Replace the cap and turn clockwise to seal.
- To replace the water tank, align it with the cap facing down, place the cap into the hole in the Steam Mop body, and slide the tank down until it clicks securely.
Operation:
- Sweep or vacuum floors prior to cleaning.
- Pull and twist the quick release cord holder to unwrap the power cord.
- Plug the Steam Mop into an electrical outlet. The power light will illuminate, indicating it's heating up. It takes approximately 30 seconds for the mop to heat up and steam to be ready.
- Pump the handle a few times in a downward motion to release steam. This pumping action allows users to customize the amount of steam.
- Begin mopping with a forward and backward motion. The natural motion of mopping will produce steam.
- When the water tank is empty, the Steam Mop will stop producing steam. Unplug before refilling.
- To Sanitize: Start with a clean pad. Pump the handle a few times. Mop on an appropriate sealed hard-floor surface with a forward and backward motion. After three minutes, the unit is ready to sanitize. Move the unit over the area to sanitize, repeating at least 15 times. (Sanitization studies were conducted under controlled test conditions; household conditions and results may vary.)
Maintenance Features:
Accessories:
- Dirt Grip® Washable Pad: These pads are easy-to-attach, reusable, and feature super-absorbent microfiber for locking in moisture and dirt, and scrubbing material for breaking up tough, stuck-on stains.
- Pad Care Instructions: Machine-wash Dirt Grip pads separately with warm water using liquid detergent. NEVER use bleach, powdered detergent, or fabric softeners, as they can damage the pads or leave a coating that reduces cleaning performance and absorbency. Pads should be line-dried or tumble-dried on a low setting to extend the life of the microfiber fabric. Loose fibers should not be pulled; they should be trimmed with scissors. For best cleaning results, pads should be replaced every 3 to 4 months.
After Use and Storage:
- Unplug the cord from the wall outlet and wrap it around the cord hooks.
- Lock the Steam Mop in an upright standing position by raising the handle until the pole is straight up, perpendicular to the ground.
- After cleaning, wait 2 to 3 minutes for the Dirt Grip® pad to cool before touching it.
- Remove the pad from the mop head to avoid damage to floors. This can be done by stepping on the tab and lifting off the mop head, or by carefully pulling the pad off.
- Store the unit in a closet or room corner with the unit locked in the upright standing position.
Troubleshooting Guide:
- Steam Mop will not turn on: Check if securely plugged into an electrical outlet, check fuse or circuit-breaker. If issues persist, call customer service.
- Steam Mop will not make steam: Ensure water is in the tank. If full, prime the mop by pumping the handle a few times.
- Steam Mop leaves water on the floor: DO NOT leave the mop on the floor with a damp or wet cleaning pad attached. Switch to distilled water if using tap water. Ensure the cap is securely placed on the water tank.
- Steam Mop leaves white spots on the floor: DO NOT leave the mop on the floor with a damp or wet cleaning pad attached. Switch to distilled water if using tap water.
- Floors are cloudy, streaky, or spotty after steaming: The Dirt Grip® pad might be dirty; change to a new pad. If washed with powder detergent, residual detergent might be left; wash again with liquid detergent. If cleaning a kitchen area with grease buildup, use a degreasing agent first. Avoid leaving the mop in the same spot for too long. Hard water might be an issue; switch to distilled water. Residue from previous cleanings might be present; clean with the Steam Mop a few more times to remove it.
- Steam Mop is hard to push: Ensure the Dirt Grip pad is properly attached.
