7 Maintenance
The Compact Recloser has been designed for
a mechanical life of 10,000 maintenance-free
operations. No routine maintenance is required
other than replacing the batteries.
This section describes the tasks a user may
need to perform on a Compact Recloser
installation in service.
7.1 Firmware updating
The Compact Recloser has firmware to control its operation. Siemens regularly
releases updated firmware that supports new features and provides stability and
performance enhancements.
While in service, a local user can connect to the Compact Recloser wirelessly
and upload new firmware using a dedicated PC application.
NOTICE
Following firmware updates or configuration changes, the Compact Recloser
protection is inoperable for a small window of time when the device performs
a reset. Ensure upstream protective devices are available to provide protection
in case of downstream fault.
7.2 Battery module
7.2.1 Battery charging
In regular operation, the batteries are charged directly by the Compact Recloser
harvesting power from the line voltage and do not need external charging.
However, the batteries in the battery module can be removed and recharged
using a standard benchtop charger suitable for 18650 Lithium-ion battery cells.
Alternatively, Siemens offers a battery desktop charger for recharging battery
modules without removing cells (3AX1350-1F).
