7 Maintenance (continued)
When multiple causes of blinks are called for at the same time the following order
of precedence is applied:
1. A short-term blink will interrupt any long-term blink pattern. Once the short-term
blink is completed, the long-term blink pattern will resume if still valid.
2. If multiple short-term blinks are called for concurrently, the one that is activated
first executes. If a second short-term blink is called whilst another is in operation,
it will be ignored.
3. If multiple long-term blinks are called for concurrently, the one with the
highest priority will be executed first. Once completed, the next highest
priority requested long-term blink pattern can be displayed.
Some blink patterns are initiated by the Controller phase and can only occur
with the optical ring running. Other blink patterns are initiated by each phase
independently when relevant conditions arise.
Short-term blink codes
Cause of blink Priority Blink sequence
Battery module
connected
1 2 short blinks for battery connection confirmed
on the phase the battery module was connected.
Red handle
position change
2 10 blinks with 500ms delay on the phase with
the red handle.
Flash LED
(identify phase)
3 Double blink with 750ms delay between
double blinks.
Repeated 10 times on the requested phase.
Long-term blink codes
Cause of blink Priority Blink sequence
Manual close
pending
4 1 blink per second for duration of manual
close delay.
Synchronised blink on all phases.
Voltage
power high
5 4 bright blinks per second on phases with
high voltage.
Recloser in
problem state
(includes
unconfigured)
6 Repeating pattern of 3 short blinks followed by
3 long blinks to create a form of S-O-S signal.
All phases will synchronously blink if optic fibre
connection is operation.
If optic ring is not connected, those
phases with battery modules will blink
(not synchronised).
Voltage
power low
7 2 dim blinks per second on phases with
low voltage.
Data transfer in
process (firmware,
event log,
configuration
file)
8 Continuous flicker on master phase.
Fault passage
indication
9 1 blink every 5s until reset.
For overcurrent faults only the phase that
caused the protection operation will blink.
For earth fault and sensitive earth faults
all phases will synchronously blink.
