6 Protective measures
Protective devices which reduce the surge voltages are used for voltage surge
protection. These are split into primary, intermediate and fine protection. Combined
protective devices are possible.
Measures for fire detector lines:
Fire detector lines must also be equipped with primary and intermediate protection
in the following cases:
● If they exit the building
● If the lines are in roof sections and on exterior walls
● If the loops (loop lines) are more than 1000 meters in length
6.1 Primary protection (G)
Primary protection (lightning protection) can divert large currents.
Application:
● At transitions between protective zone 0 and protective zone 0/E
● At transitions between protective zone 0 and protective zone 1
● As primary protection
Single primary protection
Application:
● On towers and church towers
● On devices which are installed in the open or on roofs
Double primary protection
Double primary protection means primary protection at the input and output of
connections.
Application:
● When located more than 50 meters from buildings
● On overhead lines (avoid overhead lines wherever possible)
