6.1 Description of the Freeport Protocol
Introduction
Freeport is a freely programmable, telegram-based protocol, also known as an
ASCII protocol. It controls the data transmission in a point-to-point connection
between the communication module and a communication partner.
The Freeport protocol contains only the Bit transmission layer (layer 1).
You can set various parameters for the protocol. Most of the parameters must be
specified separately for sending and receiving.
Parameter
For sending data via the Freeport protocol, the following parameters can be set for
the connection:
Data transmission rate (in Baud)
Bits per character
Parity
Stop bits
Flow control
Operating mode
The following parameters can be set separately for sending and receiving:
Break before telegram start
Setting a "send pause" (Idle Line)
Setting the message start (preamble)
Setting the message end (postamble)
Character delay time
The CM PtP communication module recognizes the start and end of a telegram
based on the settings.
You can find a detailed list with a description of the Freeport protocol parameters in
the function manual "Configurations for Point-to-Point Connections" (see \5\,
chapter 4.2).
