Before
starting
the
engine,
let's
learn
how
to
use
each
of
these
safe,
easy
to
reach
controls.

numbers
on
the
Figures
1
&
2
cor¬
respond
to
the
paragraph
numbers
below.)
1.
Ignition
Switch:
When
turned
clockwise
to
the
first
posi¬
tion
the
ignition
is
turned
on.
Turn
past
this
position
to
actuate
the
starter.
(If
the
starter
does
not
actuate,
be
sure
the
shift
lever
is
in
neutral
and
the
power
take-off
disen¬
gaged.)
Release
the
key
as
soon
as
the
engine
starts.
Return
the
key
to
the
vertical
position
to
stop
the
engine.
2.
Engine
Speed
and
Choke
Control
Lever:
The
engine
speed
and
choke
control
should
be
moved
all
the
way
up
for
the
choke
position.
Placing
the
control
lever
up
to
the
fast
position
increases
the
engine
speed
and
down
to
the
slow
position
decreases
the
engine
speed.
3.
Ammeter:
The
dial
pointer
will
move
right
to
the
"Charging"
position
when
energy
is
being
drawn
from
the
battery.
The
pointer
will
normally
fluctuate
to
either
side
of
the
dial
center.

4.
Light
Switch:
(Optional)
Place
the
toggle
switch
in
the
"Up"
position
to
turn
on
lights.
Power
for
lights
is
taken
from
the
engine
dual
alternator
system
and
not
the
battery
therefore
the
light
intensity
will
depend
on
the
engine
RPM.
The
ignition
switch
must
be
in
the
on
position
for
the
lights
5.
Fuel
Gauge
and
Filler
Cap:
The
gauge
measures
the
level
of
fuel
in
the
tank.
Turn
the
cap
counter-clockwise
to
re¬
move
for
refueling.
6.
Clutch
and
Brake
Pedal:
Depressing
the
pedal
will
first
disengage
the
tractor
drive
clutch.
As
you
continue
to
de¬
press
the
pedal
the
brake
will
be
applied
to
stop
the
tractor.
7.
Gear
Shift
Lever:
The
gear
shift
lever
is
used
to
select
the
desired
transmission
gear
speed
and
direction.
There
are
three
forward
and
one
reverse
positions.
First

Reverse
3.81
MPH
The
diagram
printed
on
the
panel
shows
the
location
of
each
position.
To
shift
the
transmission
into
first
or
reverse
from
the
neutral
position,
it
is
necessary
to
pull
UP
on
the
shift
lever
to
overcdme
the
force
of
the
shift
fork
spring.
After
you
feel
the
lever
pass
the
spring,
push
the
shift
lever
to
the
left
or
right
and
place
the
transrtiission
into
reverse
or
first
gear
as
you
desire.
To
shift
into
second
or
third,
push
DOWN
on
the
shift
lever
from
neutral
until
you
fee!
it
over¬
come
the
spring,
then
push
it
to
the
left
or
right
until
it
is
in
second
or
third
gear.
Do
not
attempt
to
move
the
shift
lever
unless
the
foot
pedal
(item
7)
is
depressed
and
the
tractor
is
stopped.
8.
Parking
Brake
Lock:
To
lock
the
parking
brake,
grasp
the
handle
and
pull
it
upward
and
back
until
it
rests
against
the
seat
deck.
To
release,
pull
the
top
portion
away
from
the
seat
deck
and
push
it
down.
NOTE:
Depress
foot
pedal
before
engaging
or
releasing.
9.
Power
Take-Off
Clutch:
The
power
take-off
clutch
con¬
trols
power
to
attachments
such
as
a
mower
or
snow
throw¬
er
which
are
driven
by
the
engine
pulley.
The
clutch
operates
by
engaging
or
disengaging
the
front
pulleys
with
the
im¬
plement
drive
belt
to
increase
or
decrease
tension.
