An abbrebiation for Point to Point Protocol, Version 3. This is a protocol for accessing a
provider using a dial-up connection.
Proxy (p. 25)
A server or program to make a computer located inside a firewall pass through the
firewall.
Reply (p. 49)
To reply to a previously received e-mail message. When replying, Re: (Reply) is
added to the beginning of the title in order to indicate that the e-mail is a reply.
Signature (p. 38)
Used to add your name, your address, etc., to the end of a message.
SMTP (p. 25)
An abbreviation for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. This is a server used to send e-mail.

An abbrebiation for Secure Sockets Layer. A protocol for exchanging information safely

encrypt data.

The title of a e-mail message. When replying, Re: (Reply) is added to the beginning of
the title in order to indicate that the e-mail is a reply. When forwarding an e-mail
message, Fw: (Forward) is added to the beginning of the title in order to indicate that
the e-mail is a forwarded e-mail message.
URL (p. 54)
An abbrebiation for Uniform Resource Locator. An address on the Internet. By
specifying this address, you can access the Web page.
Web page (p. 54)
A Web site that makes information available on the Internet. When the page includes
Web links, you can specify other pages by selecting the link.
