12.1 Mounting and Removing a Deflector
12.1.1 Mounting the Deflector
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects or contact 
with the cutting attachment, never operate the trimmer 
without a properly mounted deflector. Keep bystanders at 
least 50 ft. (15 m) away. When using a deflector designed 
for use with a PolyCut moving head, you must change the 
deflector before mounting the mowing head.
WARNING
The cutting attachment and deflector must be an approved 
combination. Use only an approved combination of cutting 
attachment and deflector to maximize cutting performance 
and reduce the risk of serious personal injury from thrown 
objects or contact with the cutting attachment, @ 25.1.
To mount the deflector:
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 15.2.
► Remove the battery, @ 14.2.
► Push the deflector (2) into the guides on the housing until 
it stops.
The deflector must be tight against the housing.
► Insert and tighten the screws (3).
The line limiting blade (1) comes mounted in the deflector 
and may not be removed.
12.1.2 Removing a Deflector
To remove a deflector:
► Switch off the power tool, @ 15.2.
► Remove the battery, @ 14.2.
► Remove the screws (2).
► Remove the deflector (1)
If the LED flashes red: there is no electric contact 
between the battery and the charger. Remove 
and reinsert the battery.
or
The battery has a malfunction and must be 
replaced. Check the LEDs on the battery. Do not 
use or charge a battery if its LEDs indicate a 
malfunction.
or
The charger has a malfunction. Have it checked 
by an authorized STIHL servicing dealer before 
use.
