4.3 Announce Mies - Compressing, Limiting, Expanding
The 528's dynamic ran1re processor is used to control both over-modulation and noise.
Noise, in this caae, may be electrically induced (hum, buzz, etc.), or acoustically
transferred (paper rattlinR, cart · solenoids, air conditionin1r, etc.), since the downward
expander attenuates all below threshold sipals without re1rard to orisrin. Careful
adjustment of the two threshold controls allows the operator to put the 528 to work on
any portion of the dynamic ran1re . The EXPAND THRESHOLD control 1rovems the 528's
activity in the lower part of the dynamic ran1re, while the COMP THRESHOLD 1rovems
activity in the upper part of the ran1re.

For smooth overall dynamic ran1re processinR that will tend to ''homo1renize" the sound
and remove only very low level noises, use a 1rentle COMPRESSION RATIO with a relatively
hi1rh COMP THRESHOLD, and a relatively low EXPAND THRESHOLD.
