Use the de-esser to reduce unnatural hiirh frequencies, the comp / limiter to prevent
overload, the expander to eliminate noise, and the parametric to make the feed sound
better and/or aet rid of interference .
Actualities carts that are prepared with the 528 produce an end product with better
intellisribility and improved siiroal to noise · ratio . The object of the processina is to
keep dynamic ranae within the real limits of the recordinir equipment, to eliminate
extraneous noise and iet better sound.
4.6 Increasing Gain Before Feedback
To optimize a PA system's response for m1n1mum feedback, tune out feedback with the
EQ / Notch Filter. To find and eliminate resonances that can become feedback problems,
turn the system on , with the microphone(s) and speaker(s) in place as they will normall y
be used, then follow the sequence below. Gain before feedback should increase ab o ut
6dB (perhaps as much as lSdB) with this technique.
Step 1. Increase system aain very carefully until a feedback frequency
becomes sliahtly audible.
Step 2. With the BANDWIDTH set at about .3 octave , and the CUT / BOOST
control set for about -lSdB, tune the FREQUENCY control of one section until
the feedback is no loniier audible .
Step 3. Increase system iiain until feedback becomes sliahtly audible
aaain.
A. If it's the same frequency that was heard first , readjust the
same FREQUENCY and BANDWIDTH controls until it aiiain s ubsi . des.
B. If it's a new frequency , repeat Step 2 usina another of the EQ
sections .
