Questions and Answers

Why is my Tarter RC104BL Farm Equipment gearbox overheating?
    • Z
      Zachary WalkerAug 2, 2025
Your Tarter Farm Equipment gearbox might be overheating due to several reasons. It could be low on lubricant, in which case you should fill it to the proper level. It might also be caused by using the wrong type of lubricant, so replace it with the correct one. Finally, excessive trash build-up around the gearbox could be the culprit; make sure to remove any debris.

Why does my Tarter RC104BL Farm Equipment have excessive vibration?
    • F
      fbaldwinAug 7, 2025
Excessive vibration in your Tarter Farm Equipment could stem from a few issues. There might be a build-up of material on the blade pan, so clean it thoroughly. The blades could be locked in position, so free them to swing freely. Check for even wear on each blade tip, weighing each blade to ensure the weight is within 1 oz. A broken blade can also cause vibration, so replace any broken blade(s) in a set. Lastly, mismatched new and worn blades or bolts can lead to vibration, so replace blades or bolts in sets.

What to do if Tarter Farm Equipment leaves uncut grass?
    • K
      Karen SaundersAug 11, 2025
If your Tarter Farm Equipment is leaving a streak of uncut or partially cut grass, there are several potential causes. First, the rotary cutter may not be level from side to side, so level the 3-pt. hitch linkage on your tractor. Second, the blade might be dull or bent, requiring you to sharpen or replace the blades. Third, the blades might be unable to cut the grass pressed down by the tractor's path, in which case you should slow the tractor's ground speed while keeping the engine running at full PTO rpm; cutting lower can also help. Fourth, there might be a build-up of material under the rotary cutter, so clean it thoroughly.

Why does my Tarter RC104BL discharge clumps of grass?
    • J
      jbullockAug 15, 2025
Uneven discharge or clumps of grass from your Tarter Farm Equipment can occur for several reasons. The grass or brush might be too high or thick; reduce ground speed while maintaining 540 rpm at the tractor PTO, or make two passes over the material, raising the rotary cutter for the first pass and lowering it for the second, preferably cutting at a 90° angle to the first pass. Raising the rear of the rotary cutter high enough to permit material to discharge can also help. Another reason could be wet grass; allow the grass to dry before mowing, and slow the tractor's ground speed while keeping the engine running at full PTO rpm, cutting lower can also help.

Why is my Tarter RC104BL Farm Equipment gearbox noisy?
    • Y
      yjohnsonAug 20, 2025
A noisy gearbox in your Tarter Farm Equipment is likely due to low oil. Check the oil level and add oil as needed.

What to do if Tarter Farm Equipment will not cut?
    • M
      maciassusanAug 25, 2025
If your Tarter Farm Equipment's rotary cutter will not cut, it is possible that the shear bolt has sheared. Install a new shear bolt (Grade 2 Shear Bolt).
  • T
    Troy DanielsAug 28, 2025
Why blade cuts grass lower in center of swath than at the edge on Tarter Farm Equipment?
    • T
      thomasfrazierAug 28, 2025
If the blade on your Tarter Farm Equipment cuts grass lower in the center of the swath than at the edge, it could be that the height of the rotary cutter is lower at the rear or at the front. Adjust the rotary cutter height and altitude so that the rotary cutter rear and front are within 1/2” of the same height.
