Maintenance
(Fig.
6)
The
heads
and
tape
path
should
be
cleaned
and
demagnetized
periodically.
Cleaning
the
Tape
Path
Apply
head
cleaning
fluid*
to
special
cotton
swabs
or
a
soft
cloth,
and
lightly
rub
the
heads,
capstans
and
all
metal
parts
in
the
tape
path.
Also
clean
the
pinch

using
rubber
cleaning

other
areas.
Demagnetizing
Heads
Be
sure
that
the
power
is
off,
then
demagne-
tize
the
heads
using
a
TEAC
E-3
demagne-
tizer
or
equivalent.
For

its
use,
read
its

DOLBY
S-TYPE
RECORDING
SYSTEM
The
Dolby
S-type
System
is
a
newly
developed
recording
system,
and
its
features
include
the
following:
*Dolby
S-type
is
based
on
the
same
operating
principles
as
Dolby
SR,
the
professional
Spectrum
Recording
system,
and
enhances
the
quality
of
audio
recordings.
*
The
system
boosts
low-level
signals
during
recording
and
cuts
them
during
playback,
providing
noise
reduction
of
10
dB
at
low
frequencies
and
a
24
dB
at
the
higher
frequencies.

Troubleshooting
Basic
troubleshooting
of
a
cassette
tape
deck
is
similar
to
troubleshooting
any
other
electrical
or
electronic
equipment.
Always
check
the
most
obvious
possible
causes
first.
To
give
you
a
few
ideas
of
what
to
look
for,
check
the
following:
©
No
power:
Is
the
power
cord
connected?
¢
Tape
begins
running
when
power
is
turned
on.
Is
the
TIMER
function
switched

No
audio
output:
Have
all
connections
been
done
correctly?
«Degraded
sound
quality:
Are
the
heads
dirty
or
magnetized?
Are
you
using
good
quality
tape?
Is
the
NR

in
the
Correct
position?
Unable
to
select
the
record
mode:
Are
the
record

tabs
of
the

in
place?
*To
prevent
side
effects
such
as
noise
modulation,
Dolby
S-type
operates
with
what
is
called
the
principle
of
least
treatment
and
applies
constant
gain
wherever
there
are
no
high-level
signals,
even
if
such
signals
exist
somewhere
else
inside
the
spectrum.
*
A

a
combination
of

operate
to
complement
each
other
in
a
technique
known
as
action

and
