Usage Features

Disc Loading and Playback: The changer features multiple disc slots (up to 110 for SL-MC7, 60 for SL-MC4) and a dedicated single disc play slot (Slot No. 0). Discs are loaded by gently pulling open the front panel, sliding the loader carriage to the desired slot, placing the disc label side up, flipping the loader upwards, and then gently closing the front panel. The device supports standard compact discs with specific marks (COMPACT disc DIGITAL AUDIO, COMPACT disc DIGITAL AUDIO TEXT). Irregularly shaped CDs (heart-shape, etc.), 3" (8 cm) discs with expander rings, cleaning discs, or warped discs should not be used as they can damage the changer.

Playback Modes:

  • Sequential Play: Plays all loaded discs in order, stopping automatically after the last track of the last disc. Users can select a starting disc.
  • Direct Play: Allows selection of a specific disc and track to begin playback, continuing to the end of that CD.
  • Single Disc Play: Plays all tracks on a disc loaded in slot No. 0 and then stops.
  • Program Play: Users can program up to 32 favorite tracks from any disc in a desired sequence. This can be done in stop mode or by adding tracks during playback (Direct Programming, remote control only).
  • Random Play:
    • One Disc Random Play: Plays all tracks on the current disc in random order, then randomly selects another disc and plays its tracks in random order.
    • Full Random Play: Plays tracks in random order from all loaded discs (up to 250 tracks). Tracks may be played twice or not at all. Slot No. 0 is not included in full random play.
  • Repeat Function (Remote Control Only): Repeats play in the chosen mode (e.g., repeating a track or a set of programmed tracks).
  • ID Scan Function: Helps locate a particular track by playing a 10-second segment around the loudest part of each track.
  • Disc Grouping Play (Remote Control Only): Allows users to organize discs into up to 5 groups (A-E). Each disc can belong to multiple groups. Groups can be named using preset names (e.g., BALLADS, BLUES, CLASSIC). Playback can then be initiated for discs within a selected group.

CD-TEXT Functionality:

  • Displaying Information: Displays the title of the CD, artist name, or song title for CD-TEXT discs. For ordinary discs, only album and artist names can be displayed if manually entered.
  • Text Search: Allows searching for discs or tracks by album title, artist name, or song title (CD-TEXT discs only for song titles).
  • Manual Text Entry (TEXT EDIT): Users can manually enter up to 32 characters for album and artist names for each disc loaded in the changer. This information is attached to the slot and will be displayed until another CD-TEXT disc is played in that slot or new information is entered.

Time Mode Selection (Remote Control Only): Displays various time-related information during playback, such as track number and elapsed play time, total remaining time on the disc, track number and remaining time of the current track, and total elapsed play time on the disc.

Remote Control: The device comes with a remote control transmitter (EUR645270) and requires two R6/LR6, AA, UM-3 or equivalent batteries. It is important to avoid obstacles between the remote control and the signal sensor, and to keep the sensor free from direct sunlight or bright fluorescent light.

Memory Retention: Program play, disc grouping play, and text editing information are retained in the unit's memory even when disconnected from the AC power source. Program and grouping play data are retained for approximately one week, while text editing data is retained indefinitely.

Maintenance Features

Cabinet and Controls: Clean the cabinet, panel, and controls with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Abrasive pads, scouring powder, alcohol, or benzine should not be used.

CD Handling and Storage:

  • Handle CDs by the edges, avoiding touching the recorded surface.
  • If a disc has moisture (e.g., from moving from a cold to warm environment), wipe it with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth before use.
  • Do not write on the label side with ball-point pens or other sharp instruments.
  • Avoid using record cleaning sprays, benzine, thinner, static electricity prevention liquids, or any other solvents.
  • Do not use discs with poorly attached labels or stickers, as protruding adhesive can cause malfunction.
  • Store discs in their cases to protect them from dust, scratches, and warping.
  • Avoid storing discs in direct sunlight, humid or dusty locations, near heat vents or heating appliances, or in car glove compartments/rear decks.

Liner Notes Organizer: The changer includes a notebook-like binder (liner notes organizer) to store CD liners, along with numbered stickers to help track which disc is in which slot. Two liners can be placed back-to-back in each pocket of the organizer.

Moving the Unit: Before moving the changer, all discs must be removed from the slots, and the changer must be turned off. The changer mechanism automatically locks when power is turned off to prevent damage during transport. Users should always press the [POWER] button and ensure "OFF" appears on the display before unplugging the changer.

Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the changer not playing, discs not playing, play stopping prematurely, noise from the tuner, error messages (e.g., "NO PGM," "ERROR," "F-26," "TAKE OUT"), and remote control unresponsiveness. Suggested remedies range from checking disc orientation and cleanliness to resetting the unit or replacing batteries.

Product Service: Users are advised not to attempt to remove covers or repair the unit themselves. All servicing should be referred to qualified personnel. Before bringing the unit for service, all discs should be removed. If a disc in play does not return to its slot, holding the stop button for about 4 seconds should return it.
