The Thorlabs TXP5004 is a 4-channel Test and Measurement Platform chassis designed to accommodate up to four TXP modules. It serves as a mainframe for various TXP series modules, enabling their control via an external PC. The device features a wide-range power supply, compatible with line voltages from 100 to 240 VAC at 50-60 Hz, ensuring broad international usability.
Function Description:
The TXP5004 acts as a central hub for Thorlabs TXP series modules, providing power, communication, and a physical housing. Modules inserted into the chassis can be controlled by an external PC through a USB interface. The accompanying TXP software allows the control PC to function as a gateway, enabling remote control of the TXP modules via a Local Area Network (LAN). This gateway functionality facilitates flexible setup configurations, including remote operation and support. The system is designed for intelligent modules, offering memory and processor capacity for real-time applications and configurable module pooling for complex measurement solutions.

Usage Features:
- Small Footprint: The chassis has a compact design, making it suitable for various lab setups.
- Module Compatibility: Hosts any TXP Series module, offering versatility for different measurement needs.
- Hot-Swappable Modules: TXP modules can be inserted, exchanged, or removed during normal operation of the TXP5004 without needing to power down the unit. This is achieved by loosening mounting screws, pushing a red button, and flipping down the ejector handle.
- Programming Interface: Supports USB interface with LabVIEW® / LabWindows/CVI® and C drivers, along with enhanced macro function capabilities for customized control.
- Remote Control: Offers remote control via USB connection or Ethernet through a gateway PC, allowing for flexible operation and support.
- Software Installation: Requires prior software installation (NI VISA Runtime, USB Drivers, Control Software, TXP Administration Tools) before connecting the TXP5004 to the PC. The installer may require a PC reboot.
- Driver Installation: USB drivers for "USB to TXP5000 Series Slot Bridges" and "TXP5000 Series Slot - USB Serial Ports" are installed automatically upon connecting the TXP5004 to the PC after software installation.
- TXP Server Configuration: The TXP Server needs to be configured upon first use, with a wizard guiding the process. It is recommended to allow
txprmd.exe through the Windows Firewall for proper operation.
- Gateway Mode: The control PC can act as a gateway to a local area network, enabling other PCs on the LAN to control the TXP modules. This mode requires the TXP Server to be stopped for activation and then restarted.
- Blind Modules: Empty module slots must be covered by blind modules (TXP5000C) to maintain proper cooling airflow within the unit.
Maintenance Features:
- Line Fuse Replacement: If the line fuse blows, it can be easily replaced without opening the unit. The fuse holder is located at the rear of the unit and contains a spare fuse. The specified fuse type is T2H250V (2 A, 250 V; 5x20 mm), IEC60127-2/V, with slow response and high breaking capacity.
- Internal Fuse Replacement: Each module slot is protected by an individual internal fuse located on the backplane. These fuses can be accessed after removing modules and blind plates. Only Littlefuse NANO2™ Slo-Blo™ R452 001 (1 A, slow response) fuses should be used.
- Cleaning: The unit can be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water. A mild 75% Isopropyl Alcohol solution can be used for more efficient cleaning.
- No User-Serviceable Parts: The unit does not contain any modules or components that can be repaired by the user. Servicing should be referred to qualified personnel. Covers should not be removed, and air ventilation slots must not be obstructed.
- Return for Service: In case of malfunction, contact Thorlabs GmbH for return instructions. The device must be properly packed in its complete original packaging for return.
- Environmental Protection: The TXP5004 is not water resistant and should be protected from adverse weather conditions. It must not be operated in explosion-endangered environments.
- WEEE Compliance: Thorlabs GmbH offers a take-back service for "end of life" units sold after August 13th, 2005, within the EC, provided they are complete, not disassembled, and not contaminated. This ensures proper recycling and reduces environmental impact.
