AddingWatertotheBattery
Thebesttimetoadddistilledwatertothebatteryisjust
beforeyouoperatethemachine.Thisletsthewatermix
thoroughlywiththeelectrolytesolution.
1.Removethebatteryfromthemachine;referto
RemovingtheBattery(page24).
2.Cleanthetopofthebatterywithapapertowel.
Important:Neverllthebatterywithdistilled
waterwhilethebatteryisinstalledinthemachine.
Youcouldspillelectrolyteonotherpartsandcause
corrosion.
3.Removetheventcapsfromthebattery(Figure28).
4.Slowlypourdistilledwaterintoeachbatterycelluntil
theelectrolytelevelisuptotheUpperline(Figure28)
onthebatterycase.
Important:Donotoverllthebatterybecause
electrolyte(sulfuricacid)cancausesevere
corrosionanddamagetothechassis.
5.Wait5to10minutesafterllingthebatterycells.Add
distilledwater,ifnecessary,untiltheelectrolytelevelis
uptotheUpperline(Figure28)onthebatterycase.
6.Installthebatteryventcaps.
ChargingtheBattery

Chargingthebatteryproducesgassesthatcan
explode.
Neversmokenearthebattery.Keepsparksand
amesawayfrombattery.
Important:Alwayskeepthebatteryfullycharged(1.260
specicgravity),especiallywhenthetemperatureis
below0°C(32°F)topreventbatterydamage.

2.Checktheelectrolytelevel;referto

3.Makesurethattheventcapsareinstalledinthebattery,
andchargeitfor1hourat25to30ampsor6hoursat
4to6amps.Donotoverchargethebattery.
4.Whenthebatteryisfullycharged,unplugthecharger
fromtheelectricaloutlet.
5.Disconnectthechargerleadsfromthebatteryposts
(Figure29).
