surfaces.Allowenginecomponentstocoolbefore
performingmaintenance.
•Donotchangetheenginegovernorspeedor
overspeedtheengine.
ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every250hours—Replacethe
primaryairlter(moreoftenindirty
ordustyconditions).
Every250hours—Checkthesafetyairlter
(moreoftenindirtyordustyconditions).
Every500hours—Replacethesafetyairlter
(moreoftenindirtyordustyconditions).
Note:Servicetheaircleanermorefrequentlyif
operatingconditionsareextremelydustyorsandy.
RemovingtheFilters
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengage
theblade-controlswitch(PTO),andengagethe
parkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Releasethelatchesontheaircleanerandpull
theair-cleanercoverofftheair-cleanerbody
(Figure44).

6.Removethesafetylteronlytoreplaceit.
InspectingtheFilters
1.Inspectthesafetylter.Ifitisdirty,replaceboth
thesafetyandprimarylters.
Important:Donotattempttocleanthe
safetylter.Ifthesafetylterisdirty,then
theprimarylterisdamaged.
2.Inspecttheprimarylterfordamagebylooking
intothelterwhileshiningabrightlightonthe
outsideofthelter.Iftheprimarylterisdirty,
bent,ordamaged,replaceit.
Note:Holesinthelterappearasbrightspots.
Donotcleantheprimarylter.
InstallingtheFilters
Important:Topreventenginedamage,always
operatetheenginewithbothairltersandthe
coverinstalled.
1.Ifyouareinstallingnewlters,checkeachlter
forshippingdamage.
Note:Donotuseadamagedlter.
2.Ifyouarereplacingtheinnerlter,carefullyslide
itintothelterbody(Figure44).
3.Carefullyslidetheprimarylteroverthesafety
lter(Figure44).
Note:Ensurethattheprimarylterisfully
seatedbypushingontheouterrimwhile
installingit.
Important:Donotpressonthesoft,inside
areaofthelter.
4.Installtheair-cleanercoverandsecurethe
latches(Figure44).
