1. Denitions and pictograms
The following terms are used in this manual:
“DANGER”: For remarks aimed at
preventing injury to personnel, whether fatal,
serious or minor.
“IMPORTANT”: For remarks aimed at
preventing a failure, damage to the product,
equipment or environment, but not directly
representing a life or health hazard for the
operator or any other persons.
“NOTE”: For remarks concerning
precautions to be taken to ensure correct
installation, use and maintenance of the
equipment, under safe and comfortable
conditions, with no reference to any possible
damage or hazard to personnel.
Load lifting or pulling wire rope”: Wire rope
installed on lifting or pulling hoist and used to lift
or pull a load.
Fall arrest wire rope”: wire rope on which the
fall arrest device is installed.
Installer”: person or department in charge of:
installation of the fall arrest device in the
lifting or pulling installation,
removal from service,
transportation for storage,
storage.
Operator”: person or department using or
installing the lifting or pulling installation.
Technician”: skilled, qualied person familiar
with the fall arrest device and in charge of
maintenance and inspection of the fall arrest
device as described in this manual.
2. Description of fall arrest devices
The Blocstop™ fall arrest device is an additional
fall arrest device installed on a TIRFOR
®
or
TIRAK™ fall arrest wire rope designed to stop a
load in the event of a fall.
Type BS manual unlock device: can be
mounted on lifting and pulling installations for
materials and equipment. In the event of a
hoist failure or rupture of the lifting or pulling
wire rope, the fall arrest device blocks the load.
This fall arrest device is installed directly on the
load lifting or pulling wire rope.
“IMPORTANT”: The Blocstop™ fall arrest
device is a quasi-machine as dened by
machinery directive 2006/42/CE. Use of the
fall arrest device is prohibited so long as the
lifting or pulling installation in which the fall
arrest device is to be integrated has not been
declared as compliant with the requirements
of the machinery directive or with the national
measures reecting this directive in the country
in which the device will be used.
The Blocstop™ fall arrest device is sized for a
usability factor of 4.
Each fall arrest device has been functionally
tested at its working load limit prior to shipment.
