8. Safety device
Blocstop™ BS fall arrest device
The fall arrest system functions automatically
when:
a lowering operation is initiated: the operator
must lift the load using the hoist; the fall arrest
device releases its grip on the wire rope
automatically,
a lifting or pulling hoist failure occurs: an
emergency operation must be organised to
recover the materials load.
IMPORTANT: You must observe the removal
from service recommendations in the lifting
system installation manual.
Removal of BS fall arrest device when used on
load lifting or pulling system:
set the load on the ground or block the pulled
load by appropriate means,
withdraw the wire rope from the hoist (see
hoist manual),
withdraw the wire rope from the fall arrest
device while holding the unlock stirrup raised,
separate the fall arrest device shackle (item 6,
g. 21) from the sling (item 1, g. 21),
reinstall the shackle (item 6, g. 21) on the fall
arrest device,

Technician Check locking on fall arrest wire rope: by
performing lowering manoeuvre with hoist,
fall arrest device should hold the load.
Operation of
stirrup (BS)
Daily Technician Check load lowering function: by
performing a hoist lowering manoeuvre
while keeping the unlock stirrup in the
raised position. The fall arrest wire rope
should slide freely in the fall arrest device.
This check should be performed at a
height of no more than 0.5 m.
Shackle on fall
arrest device
(BS)
Daily Technician Check for presence of cotter pin.
IMPORTANT: If a fall has been stopped, the
lifting system must be inspected by a technician.
