Overview

The document describes the Asana Mini Sequential Mixer, a mini exposed sequential thermostatic mixer shower.

Function Description

The Asana Mini Sequential Mixer is designed to provide a controlled and comfortable showering experience. It is a thermostatic mixer shower, meaning it maintains a constant water temperature even if the hot or cold water supply pressure fluctuates. The "sequential" aspect refers to its control mechanism, where a single control knob adjusts both the flow and temperature of the water. This type of mixer is suitable for various domestic water systems, including gravity-fed, pumped gravity-fed, instantaneous gas-heated, unvented mains pressure, and mains pressurised thermal store systems.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: The mixer has approximate dimensions of 135mm (width), 60mm (diameter of the main body), 200mm (overall width including pipe connections), and 150mm (distance between pipe centers). The outlet connection is G1/2.
  • Water Temperature Requirements:
    • Recommended maximum: 65°C
    • Minimum hot water temperature: 55°C
    • Maximum cold water temperature: 25°C
    • NOTE: Valves operating outside these conditions cannot be guaranteed by the Scheme to operate as Type 2 valves.
    • A stored water temperature of 60°C is considered sufficient to meet all normal requirements and will minimise the effects of scale in hard water areas.
  • Water Pressure Requirements:
    • Running pressure:
      • Low pressure: 0.1 bar min. (1.0 bar max.)
      • High pressure: 0.5 bar min. (5.0 bar max.)
    • Maximum static water pressure:
      • Low & High pressure: 10 bar
    • This mixer shower is designed for high pressure systems found in the UK, but can be installed with low pressure gravity water systems with reduced flow rates.
    • For effective operation of the internal seals, the maximum static pressure must not be exceeded.
  • Water Minimum Flow Rate: For best performance, a minimum running flow rate of 8 litres per minute should be available to both inlets.
  • Anti-Scald Protection: The mixer shower is tested regularly to prevent the risk of scalding. If the cold water supply is isolated, the outlet flow rate will reduce to a safe level.
  • Recommended Outlet Temperatures (BuildCert TMV scheme):
    • 44°C for bath fill (never exceed 46°C at terminal fitting)
    • 41°C for showers
    • 41°C for washbasins
    • 38°C for bidets
    • British Burns Association recommends 37°C to 37.5°C for comfortable bathing temperature for children. In premises covered by the Care Standards Act 2000, the maximum mixed water outlet temperature is 43°C.
  • Product Flow Rates (for guidance only):
    • Pressure (bar): 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0
    • Flow Rate (l/m): 4.2, 6.5, 8.6, 10.2, 11.7, 17.6, 25.8, 31.9, 37, 41.6
  • Approvals: WRAS approved.

Usage Features

  • Control Knob: A single control knob is used to operate the shower. Turning the knob anti-clockwise increases the temperature (ON/Hotter), and turning it clockwise decreases the temperature (OFF/Cooler).
  • Installation: The mixer shower is suitable for exposed installation onto solid walls, stud partition walls, dry-lined walls, or fixed to a shower cubicle or panel.
  • Siting: The shower should be positioned so that all controls are within comfortable reach of the user. Accessories like the shower head and riser rail can be positioned above or to either side of the shower.
  • Flow Regulation: A flow regulator (not supplied) can be fitted with high-pressure water systems to reduce flow rate and assist economy. It is designed to work in one direction.
  • Commissioning: The maximum temperature should be checked on site to guarantee user safety. The temperature control knob can be adjusted to set the maximum showering temperature. The mixer has a temperature stop to prevent accidental rotation to higher temperatures, adjustable between 35°C and 40°C.
  • Adjusting Maximum Temperature Setting: The mixed water temperature can be adjusted from cold through to a top limit (which can be set during installation, factory set at approximately 38°C) with full anti-scald protection throughout the range. To adjust the maximum temperature setting, remove the temperature control knob.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: All products should be cleaned using warm, soapy water. Abrasive or aggressive chemical cleaning products should not be used as they may damage the product surface and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Cleaning the Filters: Filters should be inspected and cleaned if the shower unit is blocked or if water flow is insufficient. This involves turning off the water supplies, removing the retaining clip and NRV, and washing the filter thoroughly under running water.
  • Disinfection: Chlorine is used for the disinfection of water systems. All relevant guidelines and approved codes of practice must be strictly followed.
  • Regular Testing: It is important to regularly test the mixer shower for anti-scald protection by setting the blend temperature to 38°C and isolating the cold water supply. The outlet flow rate should reduce to a safe level.
  • Service Reference: A space is provided in the manual to note down the product code for future service reference.
