Troubleshooting

Overview

The Unitor™ HPCE Dynamis 500+ is a high-pressure water jetting machine designed for heavy-duty cleaning operations. Manufactured by Wilhelmsen Ships Service, this robust equipment is built for reliability and efficiency in demanding environments, such as those found in maritime applications. Its primary function is to produce a high-pressure water jet for effective cleaning, while incorporating several safety and operational features to ensure user protection and machine longevity.

Function Description

The HPCE Dynamis 500+ operates as a high-pressure water jetting unit, capable of generating a powerful water stream for cleaning various surfaces. It is a zero-pressure system in bypass or power-off mode, meaning that when the spray handle is closed, the machine runs in circulation mode. If the water temperature exceeds 55°C in this mode, a thermal valve opens, releasing small amounts of hot water and allowing cold water to enter, thus regulating the temperature. The machine is equipped with a direct online (DOL) starter for its electrical system.

Key safety installations include an unloader valve for bypass mode and a safety valve. The unloader valve limits the operating pressure; when the maximum operating pressure is exceeded or the handle is closed, it directs water back to the water tank through a diffuser. The safety valve acts as a secondary pressure limiter, activating at 550 Bar to reduce pressure in case of excessive build-up beyond the permissible limit. This dual-valve system ensures that the machine operates within safe pressure parameters, protecting both the equipment and the operator.

Usage Features

The HPCE Dynamis 500+ is designed for user-friendly operation while emphasizing safety.

  • Pre-Operation Checks: Before starting, operators must ensure the machine is placed on a plain and secure surface, check the oil level of the high-pressure pump (not overfilling), verify electrical mains voltage/frequency match the machine's data, and inspect the general condition of all components (cables, connectors, hoses, handle, lance, nozzle). Only original nozzles should be used.
  • Water Connection: The machine connects to a water supply hose via a ¼" GEKA coupling. It's crucial to ensure sufficient water supply to prevent the machine from stopping.
  • High-Pressure Hose Connection: The female M22 coupling screws to the high-pressure outlet, fastened with two spanners (size 27). The male 3/8" coupling connects to the inlet swivel of the spray handle, fastened with spanners (size 22 and 24).
  • Electrical Connection: The machine requires a 380 V/50 Hz/3 ph – max 50 A or 440 V/60 Hz/3 ph – max 50 A supply. For extension cables up to 50 meters, a cross-section of 6mm² is recommended.
  • Start-up Procedure:
    1. Connect power and water supply hoses.
    2. Ensure the lance is connected without a nozzle.
    3. Open the supply water tap to fill the water tank (air will bleed out through the filter and overfill drain).
    4. Push the green start button. If the machine stops after 2-3 seconds, it indicates a low water level.
    5. Activate the spray handle trigger to purge air until a steady jet of water emerges.
    6. Release the trigger and press the red stop button to switch off.
    7. Connect the nozzle to the spray lance.
    8. Push the green start button again; the machine is now ready for operation at 500 bar.
  • Safety During Operation: The machine requires two operators: one at the machine and one at the spray handle, maintaining eye contact. Both must wear appropriate and certified PPE for 500 bar. Bystanders must be kept away. The spray jet should never be directed at oneself, other people, or the machine.
  • Stopping Procedure: Close the spray handle, push the red stop button, shut off water supply, and disconnect the electrical cable.
  • Storage: Store the machine and accessories in a safe, frost-protected, and dry area, away from harsh, corrosive environments.
  • Protection Against Freezing: To prevent damage from freezing, approximately 4 liters of antifreeze fluid should be filled into the water tank. The machine should then be run without the high-pressure hose 2-3 times until antifreeze comes out of the high-pressure outlet, ensuring all parts are protected.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the long and trouble-free service life of the HPCE Dynamis 500+. All maintenance works must be carried out with the motor stopped, power supply disconnected, and hoses pressure-free.

  • Daily Inspection – Testing:
    • Check oil level at the pump.
    • Visual inspection of the machine and all accessories (hoses, handle, lance, fittings, electrical components).
    • Inspect for proper air ventilation from the back of the motor.
    • Check high-pressure pump, pressure gauges, high-pressure hoses, high-pressure handle, and electric cable.
    • Test the Emergency stop button.
    • Check and replace the water filter if contaminated or if differential pressure exceeds 1 bar.
    • Check for leakages.
  • Weekly Inspection – Testing:
    • First oil change of the high-pressure pump after 50 working hours (tracked by an hour meter inside the electrical cabinet), then every 500 working hours.
    • Check oil level and quality of the high-pressure pump.
    • Replace water filter.
    • Inspect and clean the water tank mesh filter.
    • After 30 operating hours, check and tighten electrical board screws.
  • 6-Month Inspection:
    • Inspect pump oil appearance and change oil after every 500 hours (after the first change).
    • Check and tighten electrical board screws.
    • Drain and clean the water tank from inside.
  • 12-Month Inspection:
    • Replace pump oil seals and valves as part of preventive maintenance for efficient machine performance.
  • Water Filter Replacement: Unscrew the plastic transparent cover of the filter housing with the provided tool/spanner, remove the old filter, insert a new original 7" cartridge filter, and screw back the housing. The frequency of replacement depends on water quality, potentially daily with poor water quality.
  • Disposal: Disposal of pump crankcase oil and other machine components must be done according to regulations.

The machine's design, with its INOX frame, lifting eyes, and robust wheels (rear with brake), ensures durability and ease of transport. The clear labeling of components, including the water tank inlet, high-pressure gauge, unloader valve, HP pump, electric motor, and electrical cabinet, facilitates operation and maintenance. The inclusion of a water tank inspection cover, overfill drain, and inlet water cartridge filter further enhances its usability and maintainability.
