Uern D70 — System & Component Overview and Operaon
On a standard non lt helm (non L6 Verado), the ll is located on the top of the helm pump. As an
opon, you can get a lt helm (non L6 Verado), and access to the ll on the helm pump is via a hatch
in the starboard head. On a six cylinder Verado powered boat, uid is added at the power assist
pump, located in the port side of the cockpit. To access, open the port L-Lounge seat hatch. Next,
remove the cover on the power assist pump and unscrew the cap.
Refer to the steering manufacturer’s manual in owner’s manual packet for complete instrucons and
warranty informaon.
12. Engine Controls
Depending on the engine installed on your boat, you will either have a mechanical gear shi/throle
control unit or a “drive by wire” Digital Throle and Shi (DTS®) control unit. The control unit, located
to the starboard of the steering wheel, acvates both the shiing and throle for the engine.
To start the engine, the control unit must be in the NEUTRAL posion. When in neutral, the engine is
running, but the propeller is not spinning. There is a “Throle-Only” buon that when pressed, will
allow you to operate the throle without the propeller spinning. On the mechanical shi controller,
the buon is located at the center of the throle control, and when moved back to the center
posion, the buon will automacally re-engage the shiing mechanism.
For the DTS control, the Throle Only buon is located on the lever below the handle grip. To engage,
press and hold the “Throle-Only” buon on the lever when the engine is in neutral. When you place
the ERC in gear, the warning horn will beep, however, the propeller is not turning. To disengage
“Throle-Only” return the ERC lever back to neutral.
Moving the control lever forward from neutral engages the forward gear and throle advance.
Moving the control lever backwards from neutral engages the reverse gear and thrust. The throle
lever controls the RPM of the engine and the speed of the boat.
For the DTS control, there is a Stop/Start buon. This buon allows engine to be turned on and o
independent from the master key switch.
Power Trim & Tilt
The power trim, located on the side of the gear shi throle handle, allows you to raise and lower the
engine for trailering and launching the boat. It also allows you to adjust the engine to create the
opmum run angle for the boat to achieve best all around performance (fuel consumpon, speed).
