3.7 Operational Battery Life
It can be assumed that a SWiFT SVP and SWiFT CTD use a similar amount of energy during
operation. For the SWiFTplus calculations a worst-case scenario is used – Chlorophyll a.
These calculations are an indication only and actual performance will depend on a number of
factors not modelled in this calculation.
Scenario 1 – Light Duty Cycle
2 profiles per day: am\pm
Profile Depth: 50m
Drop rate: 1 m/s
Recovery Rate: 0.5m/s
SWiFT turned off between profiles
Endurance:
Scenario 2 – Medium Duty Cycle
24 profiles per day: once an hour, every hour
Profile Depth: 100m
Drop rate: 1 m/s
Recovery Rate: 0.5m/s
SWiFT turned off between profiles

Scenario 3 – Heavy Duty Cycle
72 profiles per day: once every 20 minutes

In a worst-case scenario, Chlorophyll a, a fully charged battery will operate for, in excess of 70
hours; but no more than this should be planned for.
