9.4 Taking up the upper thread with the lower
thread
Prerequisite:
The upper thread is threaded correctly, see „What do I do with the upper
thread?“ > „Threading the upper thread“ (Page 68).
The presser foot lifter lever must be in the upper position.
A full W6 plastic bobbin is inserted in the black hook race.
Required:
A pair of scissors
Carry out the following steps:
1. Hold the upper thread firmly in the left hand.
! The needle is at the top.
2. Press the ‹Needle Up - Needle Down› button twice.
! The lower thread is brought up.
3. Pull the lower thread, which creates a loop, upwards by pulling the upper
thread upwards at a slight angle.
4. Perform a tension test by pulling the upper and lower threads approxi-
mately 8 cm towards the left.
! It should be possible to pull both threads evenly and easily.
? The threads cannot be pulled evenly and easily.
This is caused either by the spool unwinding badly or by poor-quality
thread.
Turn the spool and invert it on the spool pin.
Always place the spool in a horizontal (lying) position.
Use only W6 thread.
5. Close the hook race with the
plastic bobbin cover
.
! The plastic bobbin is in the correct position if it engages audibly
when inserted.
