Special challenges with refuse collection vehicles
Incontrasttoconventionaltowingvehiclesorbuses,mostrefusecollectionvehicleshaveprotrudingliftingandtipping
mechanismsandotherauxiliarydevicesttedtothebackofthevehicle.Thiscanmakeitdifculttondsuitable
locationsforinstallingtheultrasonicsensors.Forinstance,therefusecollectiondevicesonthebackofthevehicle
mustnotbewronglyidentiedasbeingobjectsintheareabehindthevehicle.Thesensorsmustalsobeinstalled
withespeciallyeffectiveprotectionsothattheyarenotdamagedduringthedailyrigoursofcollectingrefuse.Despite
allthesefactors,theymustbeabletoreliablysensethemonitoringareabehindthevehicle.Furtherchallengesarise
