7.21 Exhaust gas treatment
The 403J-E17T engine is fitted with a diesel particulate filter.
The soot produced by burning diesel fuel is collected and burned in the
diesel particulate filter at regular intervals. This process is called
regeneration.
Regeneration takes about 40 minutes.
If the dirt in the diesel particulate filter reaches a critical value, engine
power is reduced and vehicle operation has to be stopped.
Regeneration is performed only if the engine is at operating temperature.
Health hazard due to exhaust gases!
Can cause serious health hazards or death.
► Do not inhale exhaust gases.
► Under pressure, the exhaust temperature can be up to
600°C (1112°F). Only use suitable exhaust-gas suction systems.
► Provide for sufficient ventilation when operating in enclosed areas.
Burn hazard at the exhaust system!
During regeneration, the exhaust system can develop exhaust
temperatures of up to 350°C (662°F), even if the engine is running at
idling speed, which can cause serious burns or death.
► Keep a safe distance from the exhaust system.
Fire hazard during regeneration!
Hot exhaust gases in easily flammable surroundings can cause serious
injury or death.
► Under pressure, the exhaust temperature can be up to
600°C (1112°F). Only use suitable exhaust-gas suction systems.
► Provide for sufficient ventilation when operating in enclosed areas.
