Overview

This document describes the Walgreens Deluxe Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor, model WGNBPW-920.

Function Description

The Walgreens Deluxe Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor is a home healthcare product designed to measure systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as heart rate, using the oscillometric method. It is not intended to serve as a substitute for the advice of a physician or medical professional, nor for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease. Measurement results are for reference only, and users should consult a healthcare professional for interpretation of blood pressure measurements. The device uses innovative GentleInflate™ technology to detect blood pressure during inflation, providing quick, comfortable, and quiet measurements. It includes a Wrist Positioning Guide to help users achieve the ideal wrist position for accurate readings. The monitor also features an Irregular Heartbeat Detector (IHB) to indicate pulse irregularities consistent with an irregular heartbeat. It automatically compares readings to defined levels from the NIH's National Heart Lung and Blood Institute's table and provides a Risk Category Index to cue users if their reading falls into a stage indicating increased risk.

Usage Features

  • User Selection: The monitor can be used by two individuals, with separate memory storage for each.
  • Date & Time Setting: Users can set the date and time, which is important for tracking readings. This needs to be reset if batteries are removed.
  • Wrist Positioning Guide: An optional sensor guides the wrist to the ideal position (heart level) for accurate readings. Icons on the display indicate whether to move the wrist up, down, left, or right. Measurement begins once the ideal position is found, or after 10 seconds if not found, in which case a wrist symbol is stored with the reading.
  • Measurement Procedure:
    1. Select User 1 or User 2.
    2. Wrap the cuff around the wrist.
    3. Press the START/STOP button.
    4. Follow the Wrist Positioning Guide (if enabled) to position the wrist.
    5. The monitor inflates automatically, takes the reading during inflation, then deflates.
    6. Systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse are displayed simultaneously and stored in memory.
  • Memory Recall: Users can access stored readings for each user. The monitor first displays the average of the last 3 readings ("AVG. 3"), then allows scrolling through previous readings.
  • Clearing Memory: All stored data for a selected user can be erased by pressing and holding the DATE/TIME SET and + buttons simultaneously in memory recall mode.
  • Risk Category Index: Automatically compares each reading to NIH-defined levels for hypertension and provides a cue if the reading falls into a stage indicating increased risk.
  • Irregular Heartbeat Detector (IHB): An IHB icon appears if a pulse irregularity consistent with an irregular heartbeat is detected during measurement.
  • Measurement Best Practices:
    • Take measurements at the same time each day, using the same wrist.
    • Wait at least 5 minutes between measurements (or longer depending on physiology).
    • Avoid exercising, bathing, eating, drinking alcohol or caffeine, or smoking for 1 hour before measuring.
    • Sit quietly and rest for 15 minutes before measuring.
    • Avoid taking measurements during stressful times.
    • Measure in a comfortable environment at normal body temperature.
    • Do not talk or move arm/hand muscles during measurement.
    • Do not cross legs; sit with feet flat on the floor.
    • Do not touch the cuff or monitor during measurement.
    • Ensure the cuff is wrapped securely with no space between the cuff and wrist.
    • Position the elbow on a table so the cuff is at heart level.
    • Turn the palm upwards.
    • Sit upright and take 5-6 deep breaths.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Clean the monitor body and cuff with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Do not press hard. Do not wash the cuff or use chemical cleaners (thinner, alcohol, gasoline).
