Overview

The WEN CT1272 Variable Speed Track Saw is a powerful and versatile tool designed for making precise miter cuts and rough cuts on large sheets of material. It is engineered to WEN's high standards for dependability, ease of operation, and operator safety, promising years of rugged, trouble-free performance when properly cared for and used for its intended purpose.

Function Description:

The track saw allows users to make straight and miter cuts with high accuracy, especially when used with a compatible track system. Its variable speed control enables adaptation to different material types and cutting needs, from soft plastics to hard wood and MDF boards. Key functions include free plunge for general cutting, scribe cut for shallow initial cuts (2.5mm deep), and blade changing mode. The saw is designed for use with or without a track, offering flexibility for various projects. An anti-kickback cam is integrated to prevent backward movement along the track, enhancing safety during operation. Dust collection is also a key feature, with a dust port adapter provided for connecting a dust bag or vacuum system to minimize airborne particles.

  • Dust Port Inner Diameter: 35mm
  • Dust Port Outer Diameter: 39.5mm
  • Minimum Distance from Wall for Flush Cutting: 16mm (5/8”)
  • Electrical Safety: Double-insulated tool, polarized plug, GFCI protection recommended. Extension cord guidelines provided, recommending 14 gauge for 25 ft and 12 gauge for 50 ft (Not Recommended for 100 ft or 150 ft at 12A).

Usage Features:

  • Mode Selector Switch: Easily switch between Blade Changing, Free Plunge, and Scribe Cut modes by rotating a dial.
  • Depth Adjustment Knob: Allows setting cutting depth from 0” to 2.64” (67mm). An indication arrow on the depth scale helps achieve desired depth. For track use, a track compensation lever adjusts for track thickness.
  • Bevel Angle Adjustment: The saw can be beveled between 0° and 48°. Two bevel lock knobs secure the angle. An adjustable indication arrow ensures accurate angle setting.
  • Line-of-Cut Indicators: Two notches on the base plate (0° and 45° marks) assist in aligning the saw with the marked cutting line, whether using the track or freehand.
  • Track System Compatibility: Designed to work seamlessly with WEN track systems (e.g., CT9502 100-inch Track with Adapters, CT9011 4-piece Track Adapter Set, CT992F Pair of Track Clamps, sold separately). The track adapter assembly ensures a secure and smooth glide along the track.
  • Rubber Strip Cutting: The track's rubber strip can be precision-cut by the user to match the saw's cutting path, serving as a straightedge and dust barrier.
  • Track Lock Knob: Prevents the saw from separating from the track during operation, enhancing stability and safety.
  • Fine-Adjustment Cams: Located on the saw's base, these cams eliminate play between the track guide rail and the track slot, ensuring snug movement and smooth operation.
  • Anti-Kickback Cam: A spring-loaded cam on the base prevents backward movement of the saw along the track, reducing the risk of kickback. It can be disengaged for easy backward sliding when not cutting.
  • Plunge Lock Button and Power Trigger: The plunge lock button must be pressed to allow the saw to plunge, and the power trigger activates the blade.
  • Variable Speed Adjustment Wheel: A dial allows users to select blade speeds between 2000 and 6000 RPM, optimizing performance for different materials. Guidelines are provided for speed selection based on material type (e.g., 1-3 for soft plastics/non-ferrous metals, 4-5 for hard plastics/fiberglass/particleboards, 5-6 for solid wood/plywood/MDF).
  • Operating Posture: Users are instructed to hold the tool firmly with both hands (front grip and rear handle), avoid placing hands on the workpiece, and stand to one side of the saw's path.
  • Workpiece Support: Emphasizes securing the workpiece with clamps to a stable platform, especially for large panels, to prevent binding and kickback.
  • Cutting Technique: Always push the saw blade forwards and away from you; never pull it backward or apply sideways/twisting force. Allow the blade to reach full speed before entering the workpiece.
  • Flush Cutting: Capable of making cuts close to walls or obstructions, with a minimum distance of 16mm (5/8”) from the wall.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Inspection: Before each use, inspect for loose hardware, misalignment or binding of moving parts, damaged cord/electrical wiring, cracked or broken parts, and any other condition affecting safe operation.
  • Blade Replacement: Detailed instructions are provided for safely changing the saw blade, including using the mode selector switch for blade changing, pressing the plunge lock button, holding the spindle lock, and using the included 5mm hex wrench to loosen/tighten the arbor screw. Always wear gloves when handling blades.
  • Carbon Brush Replacement: Carbon brushes (part no. CT1272-031) are consumable parts that wear down over time and need inspection and replacement as needed.
  • Cleaning: Regularly blow dust out of motor housing vents to prevent overheating. Clean the blade surface and cutting edge with steel wool and turpentine if dirty.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive guide addresses common issues such as the motor not starting, saw overheating, excessive play between track and saw, difficulty pulling the saw backward, and ineffective cutting performance, providing causes and solutions.
  • Professional Service: For complex repairs or electrical parts replacement, it is recommended to use a qualified service technician with identical WEN replacement parts to ensure safety and prevent product failure.
  • Warranty: WEN Products offers a two-year limited warranty for home use (90 days for professional/commercial use) against defects in material or workmanship. Parts that wear down over normal use (e.g., saw blades, carbon brushes, belts, batteries) are not covered by the warranty.
