GOVERNOR
Governor
Description
The
governor
is
belt-driven,
mechanically
operated
and
maintains
engine
RPM
under
varying
conditions
of
generator
load.
The
engine
speed
determines
the
Hertz
and
voltage
output
of
the
generator.
NOTE:
Belt
tension:
3/8
-
1/2
inch
deflection
at
center
of
widest
span
with
22
lbs
pressure
applied
to
belt
outer
face.
Maintain
belt
tension
for
proper
governor
operation.
Replace
drive
belt
when
worn,
frayed
or
cracked.
The
governor
will
maintain
engine
RPM
to
within
3
Hertz
of
generator
frequency
output
from
no
load
to
full
rated
load
of
the
generator.

Governor
Adjustments
Operate
the
generator
set
to
bring
the
unit
up
to
operating
tem-
perature
before
attempting
an
adjustment.
NOTE:
If
the
governor
is
severely
out
of
adjustment,
manually
adjust
the
linkage
at
no
load
to
obtain
a
safe
output
voltage
before
proceeding
with
the
adjustment.

Speed
This
adjusting
bolt
is
used
to
set
the
no
load
speed
of
the
eng
ine.
(The
linkage
arm
between
the
governor
arm
and
throttle
lever
should
be
adj
usted
to
hold
the
throttle
full
open
when
the
engine
is
not
running.)
Insure
this
linkage
moves
freely
and
that
the
ball
joint
connectors
are
pro-
per
ly
lubr
icated.
Use
graphite
lube
for
this
pur-
pose.
Disconnect
the
ball
joint
and
apply
graphite
lube
to
the
inside
of
the
joint.
