Why won't my Westinghouse Portable Generator start?
    • K
      Kevin GreenAug 13, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator won't start, several factors could be the cause. First, make sure you have enough fuel. If the fuel is old or contaminated, drain the tank and refill it with fresh gasoline. Also, a dirty air filter can prevent the engine from starting, so clean it. If the LOW OIL LED is illuminated, turn the battery switch off and add engine oil. If the spark plug is wet with fuel, wait five minutes, turn the fuel selector switch to the PROPANE position, and pull the recoil handle rapidly several times. If it still doesn't start, remove and dry the spark plug. Finally, check the spark plug itself; it may be faulty, fouled, or improperly gapped. In this case, gap or replace the spark plug and reinstall.

What to do if my Westinghouse iGen5000DF starts, then shuts down?
    • B
      Brent StephensonAug 17, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator starts and then shuts down, it could be due to several reasons. First, check if the fuel level is low or depleted and refuel if necessary. Also, verify that the engine oil level is correct. A dirty air filter can also cause this issue, so clean it. If the gasoline is contaminated, drain the fuel tank and refuel with fresh gasoline.

How to fix no power at AC receptacles on a Westinghouse iGen5000DF Portable Generator?
    • G
      Glenda DelgadoAug 21, 2025
If there's no power at the AC receptacles of your Westinghouse Portable Generator, check if the OUTPUT READY LED is off and the OVERLOAD LED is on. If so, check the AC load and restart the engine. Also, inspect the AC circuit breakers and reset them if they've tripped. Finally, the problem may be in the power tool or appliance, so replace or repair it and restart the engine.

Why does my Westinghouse iGen5000DF Portable Generator lack power?
    • E
      ericjohnsonAug 25, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator lacks power, start by checking the air filter and clean or replace it if it's restricted. Also, stale gasoline can cause this issue, so drain the fuel tank and refuel with fresh gasoline.

What to do if Westinghouse Portable Generator runs rough or bogs when load applied?
    • B
      Brandon BaileyAug 28, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator runs rough or bogs down when a load is applied, the air filter may be dirty, so try cleaning it. The generator might also be overloaded, so unplug some devices. It's also possible that a power tool or appliance is faulty, so replace or repair it and restart the engine.

Why do I smell propane fuel from my Westinghouse iGen5000DF Portable Generator?
    • L
      leeleslieSep 1, 2025
If you smell propane fuel with your Westinghouse Portable Generator, check that the fuel regulator or fuel hose and fittings are securely sealed. Use a soap solution to check each connection and tighten as needed. Also, the propane fuel regulator is equipped with a vent that will allow a small amount of propane fuel vapor to escape from the regulator when the propane tank valve is opened which can be normal providing the venting of the propane is brief. Residual fuel from the carburetor dispersing after operation is also normal.

How to fix poor performance or engine stalling on Propane on a Westinghouse Portable Generator?
    • S
      serranokatrinaSep 5, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator experiences poor performance or stalls when running on propane, inspect the propane fuel line for kinks or obstructions and remove them. Ensure the fuel selector valve is properly positioned by rotating it fully until the pointer aligns with the desired fuel. If gasoline wasn't purged from the carburetor before switching to propane, close the propane fuel tank valve, move the fuel selector switch to gas, start the engine, and let it run until the gasoline is consumed; then, begin the propane startup procedure.

Why is there frost on the propane tank or regulator of my Westinghouse Portable Generator?
    • R
      Rebecca RussellSep 8, 2025
If you notice frost on the propane tank or regulator of your Westinghouse Portable Generator, it may be due to the propane tank temperature dropping below the dew point, especially in humid conditions. If all propane fuel handling equipment is functioning normally, no correction is needed. If you suspect your propane fuel tank is not equipped with an Overfilling Prevention Device (OPD), discontinue operation immediately and replace the propane fuel tank with a propane tank equipped with an OPD. If you suspect your propane fuel tank has been overfilled, discontinue operation immediately and return the propane fuel tank to the place of purchase or refilling.
