4.0 Instrument Warmup
For a typical instrument warmup, the InfraRan should be run with the pump on for
a minimum of 30 minutes for the most stable zero prior to making measurements.
Even though the signal continues to vary significantly for approximately 4 more hours,
the detector voltage varies approximately linearly with temperature during the warm
up period.
The linear fit should not be counted as being appropriate for a long time. Each time the
InfraRan zero is determined ( after rezeroing ), a new temperature origin is recorded
and the compensation is applied from that point on ( until the next zero cycle ).
The InfraRan can be used sooner, in the fast response mode for making spot checks.
The accuracy and stability of the zero of the instrument is greatly reduced, but will
indicate points of leaks.
