CHECKING THE SHIFT SHAFT
1. Check:
• Shift shaft “1”
Bends/damage/wear → Replace.
• Shift shaft spring “2”
• Collar
Damage/wear → Replace.

CHECKING THE STOPPER LEVER
1. Check:
• Stopper lever “1”
Bends/damage → Replace.
Roller turns roughly → Replace the stopper
lever.

INSTALLING THE SHIFT SHAFT
1. Install:
• Bearing “1”
• Oil seal “2”
TIP
• Apply engine oil onto the bearing.
• Make sure that the bearing does not protrude
past the line “b” shown in the illustration.
• Lubricate the oil seal lips with lithium-soap-
based grease.
2. Install:
• Shift shaft spring stopper
• Washer
• Shift shaft assembly
• Stopper lever spring
TIP
• Hook the end of the shift shaft spring “2” onto
the shift shaft spring stopper “1”.
• Hook the ends of the stopper lever spring “3”
onto the stopper lever “4” and the stopper lever
spring hook “5”.
• Mesh the stopper lever with the shift drum seg-
ment assembly.
Install depth “a”
0.6–1.1 mm (0.02–0.04 in)
