Overview

This document is a user manual for the Zanussi ZIAN644K hob, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Zanussi ZIAN644K is a built-in induction hob designed for domestic cooking purposes. It features multiple induction cooking zones that generate heat directly in the cookware, ensuring efficient and fast cooking. The hob is operated via a control panel with sensor fields, displays, indicators, and sounds that provide feedback on its operational status and selected functions.

Key functions include:

  • Heat Setting: Allows users to set or change the heat level for each cooking zone by touching or sliding a finger along a control bar.
  • PowerBoost: Provides additional power to induction cooking zones for a limited period, ideal for quickly heating large quantities of water.
  • Timer: Includes a Count Down Timer for setting the duration of a single cooking session for specific zones, and a Minute Minder for general timing without affecting cooking zones.
  • Automatic Heat Up: Activates the cooking zone at its highest setting initially, then automatically adjusts to the desired heat setting for faster cooking.
  • BoilAssist: An automatic function that adjusts water temperature to prevent boiling over once the boiling point is reached. It is particularly effective for boiling water and potatoes.
  • Pause: Sets all operating cooking zones to the lowest heat setting, allowing for temporary interruptions during cooking.
  • Lock / Child Safety Device: Prevents accidental operation of the hob. The "Lock" function can be activated while cooking zones are in use to prevent accidental changes to heat settings, while the "Child Safety Device" prevents any operation of the hob.
  • Automatic Switch Off: Deactivates the hob automatically under certain conditions, such as all cooking zones being deactivated, no heat setting being set after activation, spills on the control panel, overheating, or incorrect cookware usage.
  • OptiHeat Control (3-step Residual Heat Indicator): Displays the level of residual heat in hot cooking zones, indicating whether it's suitable for continued cooking, keeping warm, or if there's residual heat.
  • Hob²Hood: An advanced automatic function that connects the hob to a special hood via infrared signals. The hob automatically adjusts the fan speed of the hood based on the cooking mode and temperature of the cookware. Users can also operate the fan manually.

Usage Features

The hob is designed for ease of use with its intuitive sensor-field control panel.

  • Activation/Deactivation: The hob can be activated or deactivated by touching a dedicated sensor field for one second.
  • Cooking Zone Selection: Cooking zones are selected by touching a specific sensor field.
  • Heat Setting Adjustment: Heat settings are adjusted using a control bar, either by direct touch or by sliding a finger.
  • Function Activation: Most functions are activated by touching their respective sensor fields. For example, PowerBoost is activated by touching 'P', and BoilAssist by touching the dedicated symbol.
  • Cookware Compatibility: The hob is specifically designed for induction-compatible cookware made of materials like cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, or multi-layer bottoms. Cookware with a flat, thick base is recommended for optimal performance. The hob automatically adapts to the dimension of the cookware bottom.
  • Noise During Operation: The manual clarifies that certain noises like crackling, whistling, humming, clicking, and hissing are normal during operation and do not indicate a malfunction.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and proper care are essential for maintaining the hob's performance and appearance.

  • General Cleaning: The hob should be cleaned after each use. A moist soft cloth and neutral detergents are recommended. Abrasive products, cleaning pads, solvents, or metal objects should be avoided.
  • Immediate Spill Removal: Melted plastic, plastic foil, sugar, and sugary foods should be removed immediately using a special hob scraper at an acute angle to prevent damage to the glass surface.
  • Cool-Down Cleaning: Limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and shiny metallic discoloration should be removed once the hob has cooled down sufficiently, using a moist cloth and a non-abrasive detergent. A solution of water with vinegar can be used for shiny metallic discoloration.
  • Cookware Care: Ensure pan bases are clean and dry before placing them on the hob surface to avoid scratches. Avoid sliding or rubbing pots across the ceramic glass.
  • Service and Repair: In case of malfunction, users are advised to contact an Authorised Service Centre and use original spare parts. The manual provides guidance on troubleshooting common issues before contacting service.
