ZEISS NOTES ON INSTRUMENT SAFETY Axio Observer
4 431004-6044-008 09/2017
English
CAUTION
Risk of crushing
If motorized components can be touched with the hand and fingers, please note the
following:
Risk of crushing! Do not put hands or fingers into the path of the motorized components
(e.g. X,Y scanning tables).
In the case of the microscope with a motorized Z focus drive, there is a risk of crushing in
the working area, when the movable microscope piece is lowered. Do not reach under the
movable part.
Automatic movements can be interrupted by pressing the STOP button or by turning the
up/down handwheel of the Z-focus.
If applicable, the end positions for the motorized range of movement should be set where
appropriate.
CAUTION
Risk of burns when replacing lamps
When touching hot surfaces (e.g. lamp housing) there is a risk of burning the fingers.
Therefore, pull out the power plug before changing the lamps and allow the device to cool
down for approx. 15 minutes.
Gas-discharge lamps have a high level of internal pressure when hot and must therefore
only be replaced when cooled, using protective gloves and mask.
CAUTION
Risk of ineffective safety measures
If it is determined that
protective measures are no longer effective, the device must be
taken out of service and secured against inadvertent operation, to avoid the risk of injury.
Contact ZEISS Service to have the device repaired.
CAUTION
Risk of fire from heat accumulation
Always check the device is switched off before covering it with a dust cover.
Clogging or covering of ventilation slats is also prohibited.
Failure to comply with these two instructions can lead to an accumulation of heat, which
can damage the device and, in the worst-case scenario, cause a fire.
