shelves.

lThepowersuppliedtoeachE4140shelfiscontrolledbyfourpowerswitches.During
thepower-on,theswitchesinAreaAoftheuniedPDU(seeFigure6-2)shouldbe
turnedonbeforetheswitchesinAreaBareturnedon.

Prerequisite
lYouknowtheelectricalcontrolrelationshipsbetweentheuniedPDUandeach
assembly.
lAmultimeterisready.
Steps
1.PerformthefollowingproceduresbeforepoweringonanE4140shelf.
a.VerifythatDualIn-linePackage(DIP)switchesoftheshelfhavebeensetinthe
correctpositions.
b.VerifythattheswitchoftheNewPowerEntryModule(NPEM)intheshelfisset
to"OFF".
c.Verifythatallboardsarecorrectlyinstalledintotheshelfandtheextractorsonthe
frontboardsareopened.
d.Ensurethatthefanmodulesarepresent.
Caution!
Duringequipmentoperation,ifyouwanttomaintainthefanmodule,you
mustcompletethemaintenancequicklytopreventhardwaredamagedueto
overheating.
2.Powerontheshelf.
a.SettheshelfswitchinAreaAoftheuniedPDUto"ON".
b.UsethemultimetertocheckthePDU'soutputvoltages.
Thetoleranceofthe–48Vvoltageisfrom–40Vto–57V,thetoleranceofthe–60
Vvoltageisfrom–50Vto–72V.
c.Verifythatthe–48VAand–48VBindicatorsontheNPEMareashingredand
theOKindicatorisashinggreen.
