UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE
3Com may release upgrade files for the firmware that
is installed on the Switch. These firmware upgrades
normally contain feature enhancements and fixes for
known issues in previous releases.
This chapter describes how to download firmware
updates and use the 3Com TFTP Server to upgrade
the firmware on the Switch.

Installing the 3Com TFTP Server
To perform firmware upgrade, you need to use the
3Com TFTP Server, an application that is included on
the Baseline Switch 2226-PWR Plus CD-ROM.
3Com TFTP Server is a simple, streamlined form of FTP
without its security features (such as directory listings,
password protection, and user authentication).
You can install the 3Com TFTP Server on the follow-
ing Windows
®
platforms:
■ Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
■ Windows 2000 Advanced Server/Server/Profes-
sional
■ Windows Me
■ Windows 98/SE
■ Windows 95/95b
■ Windows NT 4.0/3.51
The 3Com TFTP Server is also available for download
on the 3Com Web site,
www.3com.com.
To install the 3Com TFTP Server:
1 On a computer that is connected to the Switch, insert
the CD-ROM that is supplied with the Switch.
The menu for the CD-ROM appears.
If the menu does not automatically appear, use Win-
dows Explorer to open the \3Com TFTP folder on the
CD-ROM. Double-click
setup.exe to manually start
the 3Com TFTP Server setup program.
2 Click Install the 3Com TFTP server program. The
3Com TFTP Server Setup starts.
3 On the Welcome screen of the setup wizard, click
Next. The Software License Agreement screen
appears.
