01 Save Mode
IdleCopy Backup@Call PolyStore
• IdleCopy
This mode can be activated any time, the earlier in the day,
the better. Parameters excluded by an operator's previous
choice are flagged as 'N.A.'. When the internal HDD is
not occupied by any other task, i.e. in TEST or STOP, Cantar
incrementally copies the files of the day onto DVD-RAM
(external or internal), CF card or external HDD. By the end
of the day most audio files are copied. This is an alternative
to the simultaneous recording on both the internal and exter-
nal HDDs. IdleCopy updates archived files; if you modify
the metadata of a take, its copy is erased and re-saved.
To interrupt the process, go to PPR or press [esc] until 'IdleOp
Stop' is displayed; the unfinished file copy is erased. The
operation will resume upon entering TEST or STOP. Note
that
a five second delay lets you go to PLAY through these
positions without triggering the process. Once IdleCopy has
completed, the backup disk goes back to sleep.
DO NOT remove the external HDD or DVD-RAM until the
IdleCopy job has completed (see Pazienza!, p.20).
Toggling between TEST and STOP is the way to display the
remaining disk space in Gigabytes. If, at the end of your
next recording, the file is too large to be idle copied within
the available backup disk space, 'IdleCopy Full' appears.
After you [eject] the DVD-RAM or remove the CF card, insert
an empty one; the backup automatically continues from
where it previously stopped.
• Backup@Call
Opens access to the parameters requested for BACKUP.14
'Run Backup'. If you copy your files onto an external HDD,
only trigger 'Run Backup' at the end of the day; modifying
a file's metadata after you have saved the file during the
day would not resave the updated file(s) with the next 'Run
Backup' of this day. It is preferable to use IdleCopy which
resaves files that have been updated.
• PolyStore
To speed-up the end of day 'Run Backup', PolyStore copies
onto the int. HDD, the provisional polyphonic files resulting
from the treatments done during idle periods or during 'Run
backup' on DVDs. From time to time, flush out these poly
files from the HDD (see BACKUP.13 'Erase Polys').
02 Day to Copy
2007-02-18
The current day is selected by default. Previous days can
be selected too. To simplify archive creation and retrieval,
Cantar only copies one day per CD/DVD. Several days
can be copied onto an external HDD, each day in turn.
03 TrackSelect
T1–T6, T1–T8, T1–T8 T7T8*,
T1–T8 T8T8*, T7T8*, T8T8*.
*of interest if T8 carries a mix-
down. (T1–T6 T7T8, later).

MonoDirect PolyNative PolyRotate
• MonoDirect leaves the iso tracks in their original form
(AB1234_1, AB1234_2), and puts them in an .AAD folder
identical to the Cantar HDD one.
Important: Because the Avid NLEs were unable to create
automatic links between the iso tracks of a group, it was
recommended to import polyphonic BWF-P conversions, not
BWF-M files. With the introduction of a new import functionality
in MC/Symphony v3.5, MonoDirect is now the best choice.
• PolyNative makes long BWF-P poly files (A B1234.PN) by
interleaving the iso monofiles while keeping their rank, then
stores them in an .AAN folder. • PolyRotate2 moves the
tracks two ranks up (the T1–T6
isos go to positions T3–T8, while
T7T8 are sent to T1T2), then it
makes a poly file (AB1234.PR)
stored in an .AAR folder. PolyRotate2 solves the former
Avid MCs inability to put tracks where desired, e.g. when
importing a mixdown the MC puts it on the timeline A1-A2,
unfortunately it will also put the T1T2 iso tracks of a multi-
track recording there too!
