Operation principle and hardware description
What this chapter contains
This chapter describes the operating principle and construction of the drive module
in short.
What the ACS850-04 is
The ACS850-04 is a drive module for controlling asynchronous AC induction motors
and permanent magnet synchronous motors.
The main circuit of the drive module is shown below.
This table describes the operation of the main circuit in short.
Component Description
Rectifier Converts the three-phase AC voltage to DC voltage.
Capacitor bank Energy storage which stabilizes the intermediate circuit DC voltage.
Inverter Converts the DC voltage to AC voltage and vice versa. The motor
operation is controlled by switching the IGBTs.
Brake chopper Connects the external brake resistor to the intermediate DC circuit when
the voltage in the circuit exceeds its maximum limit.
