7.4.5 Wet cleaning with external water pressure vessel
Operating state prerequisites for cleaning the compressor
On V-engines with several turbochargers per engine, parallel cleaning of both turbochargers
is recommended. This cleaning process is faster and reduces the risk of surging of the tur-
bocharger.
To carry out the cleaning operation checked and recommended by ABB Turbocharging, the
following prerequisites must be fulfilled:
¡ Engine load 50 … 85%
u Start the cleaning operation according to the following description.

u The prerequisites for operating state for cleaning the compressor with XC3 must be ful-
filled before the cleaning.
u Screw out sealing plug (X).
u Fill container with pure water.
u Screw in sealing plug (X).
u Push valve activator (Y) against the spring and hold for 10 to 15 seconds until the whole
volume of water is injected.
u After cleaning operations, a waiting period of at least 5 minutes is required for the tur-
bocharger to dry.
