5 Troubleshooting
Scanner error indicators
Following is a list of the codes that may be displayed in the Function
Window.
If you cannot correct the problem, you may need to power-cycle the
scanner. If the problem persists, call Technical Support.
Problem solving
If your scanner does not function as you expect, this section may help
you resolve the situation.
Scanner exception handling
The following user correctable error conditions will be reported on the
scanner screen and will remain until you correct them:
Paper jam — open the scanner cover and remove the jammed pages
(see “Opening the scanner cover” on page 29).
Multifeed — open the scanner cover and removed the multifed
pages.
Cover opened — close the scanner cover.
Codes Condition Explanation/Action
0 No USB cable
connection
Check the USB cable. Cable is missing or
is not securely attached.
Computer has a USB
1.1 connection
Computer must be USB 2.0 or USB 3.0
compatible
Firmware update has
completed
successfully
Power button will be flashing. Turn power
off and then on again.
U5 An operation has
timed out or a
calibration has failed
Retry operation or calibration
U6
Cover open or paper
path blocked
Open the scanner cover and verify that all
documents are removed from the paper
path. Then close the scanner cover.
U8 Multifeed
A multifeed document has been detected.
Clear the multifeed condition.
The document you are trying to scan is
too long.
U9 Paper jam Document jam or the paper path is
blocked. Clear the documents from the
paper path. Check documents for staples.
E2, E4 Power cycle required
Turn power off and then on again. If the
problem persists, call Service.
