Voice recognition system
Operating
Applies to: vehicles with voice recognition system
You con operate many Infotainment functions
conveniently by speaking.
Requirement: the ignition and the MMI must be
switched
on <=> page 135, there must be no phone
call in progress and the parking system must not
be active .

Switching on: briefly press t he ~ button @
<=> page 11, fig. 7 on the multifunction steering
whee l* and say the desired command after the
Beep.

Switching off : press and hold the~ button .
Or: press any button on the MMI control panel.

Canceling: press the~ button and say a new
command.
Or: say the command Cancel.
Input assistance
The system guides you through the input with
visual and audio feedback .
- Visual input assistance: after t urning on voice
recognition, a disp lay with a select ion of possi-
ble commands appears in the Infotainment dis-
play. The command display can be turned on or
off in the main menu using the
MMI setup con-
trol button .
- Audio input assistance: to have the poss ible
comma nds read, turn the voice recogn ition sys-
tem on and say
Help.
For the system to understand you:
Speak clearly and dist inct ly at a normal volume.
Speak louder when driving faster.
Emphasize the words in the commands evenly
and do not leave long pauses.
Do not speak a command when t he voice recogni-
tion system is making an anno uncement.
Close t he doors, the windows and the sunroof* to
reduce background noise . Make sure t hat passen -
gers are not speaking when you are giving a voice
command.

Do not direct the air vents toward the hands -free
microphone, which is on the roof headliner near
t he front interior lights .
Only use t he system from the driver's seat be-
cause the hands -free microphone is directed to -
ward that seat .
Additional settings
Additional settings, such as individual speech
training
based on your voice, Display speech
command s
or the prompt volume , can be adjust -
ed in the main menu using the MMI setup con-
tro l button

A WARNING
- Direct your full attention to driving. As the
driver, you have complete responsibility for
safety in traff ic. Only use the functions in
such a way that you always maintain com-
plete contro l over your vehicle in all traffic
situat ions.
- Do not use the voice recognition system in
emergencies because your voice may change
in st ressfu l situ at ions.
It may take longe r to
dial t he number or t he system may not be
able to dial it at all. Dial t he emer gency
number manually.
© Tips
- The dialog pauses when the re is an incom-
ing pho ne call and will continue if you ig-
nore the call. The dialog ends if you answer
t he call.
- You can sele ct an item in the list using ei-
ther the voice recognit ion system or the
cont rol knob.
