- Always follow the instr uctions provided
by the manufacturer of the ch ild re-
straint you intend to install in your veh i-
cle.
- Never install a child restraint without a
properly attached top tether strap if the
child restraint manufacturer's instruc-
t ions requ ire the top tether strap to be
used .
- Improper use of child restra int LATCH
lower anchorage po ints can lead to injury
in a coll ision. The LATCH lower anc horage
poin t s are des igned to w it hstand only
those loads imposed by correct ly fit t ed
child rest raints .
- Never mou nt two ch ild restr aint systems
on one LATCH lower anchorage point .
- Never secure or attach any lugg age or
other item to th e LATCH lower anchorag-
es .
(j) Tips
- In Canada, the terms "top tether" with
"lowe r univers al anchorages" (or "lower
universa l anchorage ba rs") are used to
describe t he system.
- In ot her countries, the te rm "IS0 FIX" is
used to describe the lower anchorages.

Circular locator buttons on the rear seatback
indicate the lower anchorage locations on the
rear seating positions ~ fig . 117 .
Lower anchorages
The lower anchorage attachment points are
located between the rear seatback and rear
seat cushion

Lower anchorages secure the ch ild restrai nt in
the seat without using the vehicle's safety
belts. Anchorages provide a secure and easy-
to-use attachment and minimize the possib ili-
ty of improper child restra int installation .
All child restraints manufactured after Sep-
tember 1, 2002, must have lower anchorage
attachments for the
LATCH system.
Remember that the lower anchorage po ints
are only intended for installation and attach-
ment of child restraints specifically certified
for use with
LATCH lower anchorages. Child IJ>
